HDR in B/W can be really good. HDR isn't just colors. For B/W it can do great results in highlights and shadows. So no one should dismiss HDR for B/W content like NOTLD Wink
avatar
There's plenty of B&W movies out there with proper HDR/DV grades that look beautiful
avatar
As far as I know, there is some benefit to HDR with B&W, not as much, but still appreciable. Probably gonna see a bit more detail, since you'll see more shades of gray
avatar
bleh
avatar
The new Orion logo is pretty bad
avatar
Well it is B&W so you wouldn't get much out of HDR.
avatar
bruh, the upcoming 4k of night of the living dead will only have sdr
avatar
Yeah i never like when they do that.
avatar
Agreed! Hopefully MGM wont use this to replace the older ones on its back cayalog
avatar
That's pretty neat looking
avatar
avatar
another one, so sad
avatar
RIP James Caan
avatar
It's a director's cut in name only, but it's an interesting curio - I don't think there's a bad cut of Alien
avatar
Is Worth Watching The Directors Cut Of The Original Alien? One Of my theaters is going to show it on DCP
avatar
@HippieDalek Great can't wait to see them. Great stories as well I wish he did more. @NeonBible Thanks that makes it easier for me actually.
avatar
Looks like the Dr. Who double bill will be shown nationwide at other chains (Picturehouse, Cineworld etc) if you can't get to a Showcase
avatar
@alleycat The new 4K Blu Ray of Dr. Who and the Daleks is incredible! I never knew 2-Perf 35mm could look so good. The colours in particular look incredible. Can't wait for "Invasion" next month!
avatar
Watch classic James Bond 007 on real 35mm IB technicolor film this weekend only: https://mahoningdrivein.ticketleap.com/a...22/details
avatar
Anyone UK based, FYI Showcase are showing a double feature of the Peter Cushing Doctor Who movies on 10th July, assuming from that new 4K master.
avatar
that's a shame. I've heard their upmixer is a lot better then DSU/Neural-X though I've never had the chance to try it out myself
avatar
Looks like auro3d just filed for bankruptcy
avatar
Last I heard he was was taking a break so I doubt you will get ahold of him.
avatar
@PDM Very! Though It is very hard to get in contact with him.
avatar
Top Gun Maverick was a blast on IMAX, hope it releases at some point with that Aspect ratio Smile
avatar
Are you concerned about him?
avatar
Pipefan doesn’t seem to be active…
avatar
Full Prey/ Predator 5 trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ7LytagKlc
avatar
Agree it was great, a solid film in the 80's style with solid characters great imagery and action. Will see it in IMAX next.
avatar
Nice
avatar
I can honestly say they haven't, the emotional beats aren't there, and I'd say they are the heart of the film, as they should be, and as far as the stunts are concerned, boy...you're not ready LOL
avatar
Hopefully the trailers haven't shown off too much either.
avatar
Of course! One hitch in that version though, during the climax the footage shifted from IMAX to 2.4:1, and the color timing changed dramatically from chilly cool to summer dusk in 2 consecutive shots of the same thing. Other than that, holy hell, an absolute romp
avatar
IMAX?
avatar
Agreed!
avatar
Top Gun 2...Goddamn, they CAN make them like they used to!
avatar
67 is no age, RIP Ray
avatar
Yeah, way too young
avatar
@PDB shocked. way too soon.
avatar
Sad
avatar
R.I.P. Ray Liotta, man they are dropping like flies
avatar
@stwd4nder2 Eric's quite well known and liked, I never had any doubt. He's now reached the initial target with a few days to go to raise some funds beyond it!
avatar
Those are some long episodes for Stranger Things. It's a "strange thing" they're doing with this season.
avatar
Was almost worried they wouldn't meet the goal. Glad to see that it will be fully restored.
avatar
Eric is a crowd-funding genius. 240 bucks to go - anyone interested hop on Kickstarter - Kong of the Kingo 1929, the world's first cinematic serial with sound (watch the video he explains what it is): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/162...5mm-serial
avatar
avatar
Are they really going to do that?!
avatar
I'm divided as to whether I watch it now and then have to endure the 5 week wait for the last 2 episodes or wait 5 weeks and watch it all over a weekend.
avatar
Also can't wait for season 4 of Stranger Things this Friday.
avatar
Looks like another great Mission Impossible. Wish it were this year but still some good flicks coming this summer.
avatar
Looking Bond!
avatar
Looking good. The series has really maintained a high level of quality

And to you all!

May the Fourth be with you.

I won't be adding any plugins like that, because frankly, it's going overboard. For the same reason I won't be requiring changing the password every 90 days etc.
avatar
The plugin migrates the passwords on relogin, but at the same time, all old hashes were also migrated. So depending on when you logged in to the forum, it will be either new_hash(your password), or new_hash(old_hash(your_password)). Either way, much more secure
avatar
Will people need to change their password to take advantage of that, or does it create a newly salted hash on a new login? If possible you should add an extension to check the passwords against a breached password database on registration, password change, and login (e.g. HaveIBeenPwned) as well.
avatar
I just logged out and in again, all seems fine.
avatar
I have installed a plugin for better password hashing (better security) on the forum. The change should be completely transparent to users, but if you experience any errors with the forum - including, but not limited to, logging in and registering, please e-mail me at admin@fanrestore.com
avatar
Can anyone show me how to fix an aliased video source?
avatar
RIP Gilbert Gottfried
avatar
Yup, ahah
avatar
It really was as simple as that, lol
avatar
If anyone is having problems seeing embedded pictures in posts, check out this simple solution -> https://fanrestore.com/thread-2743-page-2.html
avatar
I can get you the french track from the R1 DVD, assuming the copy at my library isn't scratched to shit
avatar
Sorry alleycat, I've never owned that film
avatar
Don't suppose anyone has any non English language tracks for the Theatrical Cut of Troy? There are French and German tracks on certain DVDs for sure.
avatar
Fede Alvarez posted the original ending to Evil Dead (2013) which mirrors the original: https://twitter.com/fedalvar/status/1511...gr%5Etweet
avatar
Nicely said HD, thanks. Hope we can get more projects from soon.
avatar
I've had a few things going on in my life since the start of this year so I've not been visiting here much since "the event." I tried to log in a few days ago and was worried that this wonderful site had disappeared. So relieved to find it back again today. And I can use the ShoutBox again! Huzzah! Hoping I'll be able to get back on top of some of my projects soon.
avatar
Glad to see things back up. Smile
avatar
Super glad to see the site back - I was worried it was gone for good.
avatar
Yay, I can use the Shoutbox again.
avatar
Nah, this place won't die. Smile Having a way to notify everyone, isn't a bad idea though.
avatar
Phew, thought the site was dead
avatar
Feallan is right, with discord or IRC most of the conversation would just move to a chat and kill the forum with its useful information. I'd settle for a system that allows admin or moderators to send email alerts in case something big happens and many members wouldn't know what's going on. I hear mailchimp and similar services can be useful and are free within limits that are compatible with the number of members here and the frequency of such events.
avatar
I'm not sure about Discord, I would rather not shift any discussion from the forum, since we have the shoutbox. Maybe some announcement only channel, but then it would require people to have an account there and bookmark it. I think I'll look into some mass mailing solution (can't use the forum feature, if forum is down)
avatar
Depending on the purpose discord is superior to irc... IRC is just a live text chat, while discord can be used for announcements, why not everyone has to catch right at the moment...
avatar
Thanks for everyone's patience, BTW
avatar
I'd prefer IRC over discord, but yeah having some kind of off-site comms could be very helpful if something bad happens
avatar
Quite a few on here have accounts on OT or the SW forums, but agree it may be best to have a backup way of contacting members. Glad that fanrestore is back!
avatar
I hear people use discord but I'm mentally too old for these things. I'll make myself a Fanrestore addressbook ;D
avatar
It's not going to for the foreseeable future, but even in that case something would definitely be set up, at the very least a way to exchange e-mails between members. But yeah, doing it yourself wouldn't hurt too Smile
avatar
No problem, glad everything is back. Which reminds me that I probably wouldn't know how to keep in touch with 99% of you if the forum disappeared Sad
avatar
Also, they restored an earlier backup of the DB, I had to do it again with the correct one, so a couple shouts and a 1-post thread about a shoutbox issue (it should be fixed now, Hitcher) are missing. Sorry guys, and thanks to Evit for noticing something was wrong
avatar
Okay, everything should be up and running. My hosting provider had some sort of a malfunction on Friday evening, and strangely, even though the helpdesk should work 24/7, they were only able to fix it on Monday morning... Please let me know if anything is missing/not working on the forum
avatar
Aphasia is a nasty thing
avatar
It does seem he's in a bad way unfortunately, very sad to hear
avatar
Seem Bruce Willis is retiring for serious medical reasons. The rumors of him doing all those crap films to provide for his family seem to be true.
avatar
Thanks
