What makes VHS Hi-Fi sound better in this case?
(Personal Question I want an answer for)
Does the “It’s A Wonderful Life 45th Anniversary” VHS sound better than any other version (the Citizen Kane 50th Anniversary Turner VHS came out in 1991, and so did the It’s a Wonderful Life 45th Anniversary VHS) because it has less noise reduction?

I have been waffling what to do about the Director's Cut of this film.

Years ago, with the help of a friend that spoke French, I constructed subtitles in English with translations for the non-English segments when the extended version was first released outside the U.S. (but Warner Bros. prevented a U.S. release).

Now there is the different extended Director's Cut from Criterion and I've come to the conclusion that I actually like the U.S. theatrical cut best.

As stupid as that sounds, the lead character, Claire, is much more likeable in that version. Also, there is some anti-American slams in the Director's cut that annoy me.

I was considering using Criterion's release and an old German DVD and U.S. laserdisc transfer as a guide to constructed an HD theatrical version, except it's beyond my abilities at the moment.

The problem being that there's credits in places where there isn't in the Criterion version, there's some commentator voice overs in the theatrical cut to make up for missing footage... basically there is a lot of differences. That's not taking into account some of the serious color changes.

Has anyone been considering trying to make this reconstruction?

Hi,

I was wondering if someone has the properly restored European Amazon 1080p WEB-DL¹ of Disney’s Robin Hood (1973). I’d like to use it for a video of the sync Songs from Sherwood Forest².

This runs at 25fps and is not to be confused with the Disney+ 1080p WEB-DL, which is of Disney’s destructively restored Blu-ray version and runs at 23.976fps.

This is a sync of the movie with Jethro Tull’s album Songs from the Wood (1977) on repeat until the end of the movie. It was discovered by Tyler C. Buffett in April 15th, 2014. I’m going to use my rip of the 2003 remastered CD of the album (minus the 2 bonus tracks) for the sync audio made in Audacity, slow the video down to 23.976fps in MKVToolNix, and replace the movie audio with the sync audio in Kdenlive.

Thanks,

Hey everyone!

Pleasure to be here. I'm new to fanedits, and frankly forums in general, but have really been appreciating the stuff that Doc Sapirstein has put out, and the Hobbit book cut. I had no idea a fanedit could be so professionally done, to the point of improving the "officially" released film!

Looking forward to interacting with you all!

I've got a few projects where I'd like to take PAL DVDs and just convert them to remove the speedup to get back to the original film speed. All of them are 24fps film based materials with NTSC transfers of other versions elsewhere. I'm on a mac now and was wondering what the best overall solution to do this is. I've also got another LD analog audio audio source to try and sync to one PAL DVD that has seems to have some slight time compression I need to remove. The masters seem to be using the exact same rare source and I'd like to get the audio synced without any speedup in the final file.
This one, the Spanish PAL DVD of the rare alternate cut of Journey Into Fear, I'd like to upscale once the speedup is fixed so that I can make a video comparison with the BD footage of the US cut. Ideally, I'd like to reconstruct the European cut using the good BD footage as a base with an eventual goal of making a reconstruction of the shooting script if I can ever get access to that.
