Hello everyone - just introducing myself properly to this fine forum with a project I finished a short while ago, an HD re-creation of the 'Special Longer Version' of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Video is from the 2013 Blu-ray (colour corrected shot by shot, with added 35mm film grain to fix the digital scrubbing), with select few shots which were too problematic replaced by the HDTV broadcast. Extended scenes are from the 2001 Director's Edition DVD, upscaled to HD. Audio is from the 1989 Japanese laserdisc.

I believe there has been an SD version of this cut released elsewhere years ago, and that others may have been working on HD versions of it since - so hopefully this doesn't step on any toes. Others however seem to have been trying to "fix" the notorious Kirk spacesuit sequence where we famously see a large part of the studio set around the facade of the Enterprise. This project keeps all such goofs intact.

Welcome Loon. Nice to see someone put the long version back together.
Welcome to FanRes, Loon!
Is this the longest version of TMP that was ever released? Funny how standards change, 2:24 wouldn't seem especially long of a movie by today's standards. Some may say this is one movie that needs to be a lot shorter but the longer the better in my book, by far the best Trek movie ever.

I believe so! Funnily enough, I once also created a sub-2 hour fan edit of TMP and while it was certainly much snappier, it just didn't feel "right" somehow. For better or worse, the ultra-slow pace is all part of the film's identity and legacy I think.
I've always preferred this version to the Theatrical or Director's Cut, so I'm glad to see it getting some HD love. Well done!

Did shorter cuts of the movie myself way way back (when fanediting meant using two VCRs and the pause button) to accompany shorter cuts of other Trek movies and episodes. But quite right, with TMP slow and steady wins the race.  Big Grin
what an introduction!

welcome and thank you for sharing!
I have the 720p version glad to see a 1080p version Smile
Finally got around to watching this. It's really good, the different sources are obviously going to be detectable to some extent but a very very watchable video. There is one shot missing though (on my file at least), when I say missing I mean the screen goes black but the sound continues. It's when the Klingon captain says "Evasive", the weird thing is although the picture disappears for that shot, the subtitle stays on screen!
