I have a .WAV file of the OG stereo (from the German BD) if anyone's interested in syncing it to the Shout Factory UHD.
No one?

Does it sound better or different? Why the need to sync it? Spectrograms or notes would help.

The 2.0 track on the Shout UHD is reportedly a downmix (from their 5.1 remix).

I read that the 2.0 on the German BD is the genuine stereo.

Hopefully that information is accurate.

Not sure how to do a spectrogram... that's a bit beyond my meagre capability.

I muxed the BD stereo to the UHD video and they're out of sync - and I don't think a single sync up and the beginning would do.

Again, it would take someone with more ability than I to fix.
The UHD is 24fps and German BD 23.976 which is mostly why it can't be synced with a single delay.
Should be possible to slow down the video of the UHD in eac3to without re-encoding.

Someone asked me about the Japanese Laserdisc a while back, but I don't have an easy way of getting them nowadays.
You can easily change video frame rate through MKVToolNix. This old thread has good info: https://fanrestore.com/thread-2604.html

If you want to slow down / speed up the audio instead, IIRC a lot of people would say only change speed for 23.976<->24 and don't try to maintain pitch, because it's such an imperceptible difference and there's risk of introducing more artifacts by massaging the pitch.

I think remuxing the audio seems less complex and risky than re-encoding the image.

I'm sure the difference to the ear would be imperceptible.

I put the two ripped files into Audacity and you can see that whilst the German BD looks normal:

Shout's downmix looks funky as hell:

NTSC dvd 2.0 is better than DE blu-ray.

waveforms don't give you much info. you need to be looking at and comparing spectrograms.
