Capturing Laserdiscs through Framemeister?

So I'm kinda interested in retro gaming besides movies and I've stumbled upon this unit - Framemeister. It does a great job for playing retro consoles on new TVs. I was wondering if anyone ever tried plugging in Laserdisc player into them? The unit itself is very pricy and I don't think I'll get one anytime soon.

I'm skeptical that it could have an upscale algorithm that doesn't have any equal in the software realm. For realtime playback it sounds nice, but for capturin I don't quite see the purpose (yet?).

It doesn't even need to upscale actually, from what I understood, TV/Capture devices producers use low-end components for old inputs such as RGB/Composite. This unit actually has very high quality components that get the best out of your console. Upscaling is just an option in it's settings I think.

Oh, I see. So the appeal are good A/D converters? Why not then, if they are actually better than the equivalent in capture cards. Though I find it strange that an expensive capture card would use cheap components, but I suppose it's thinkable.

Do you know how these are for capturing VHS? Is there an internal TBC?

For laserdisc, if you want high quality, then capturing the RF directly gives a better solution than any other method.

For other analogue formats, there is a developer board that does better than any of these commercial solutions, and then you get a BMD HDMI capture board, it will give far better capture than anything else out there.

The appeal of the Framemeister for video game enthusiasts is the proper processing of 240p analog video signals (a hacked version of 480i where the same scanlines are drawn every frame instead of alternating for an interlaced picture) for modern digital TVs. On a CRT there is no input latency, but on a common digital TV with an analog device hooked up like an NES, you can be talking well over 10 frames which can make some games downright impossible. The Framemeister will do the A/D conversion and upscale to 720p/1080p in a fraction of the time of most TVs, while also looking cleaner by preserving sharp pixel edges (the TVs built in upscaling process will most likely blur it).

Would love to hear more about the developer board poita. Are you talking about the Intensity Shuttle for the BMD board?

I think the evaluation board is an ADV7800, AFAIK it requires code to be written/flashed in order to operate. It's also incorporated into a couple of standalone video processors. By all accounts it's the best 3D comb filter in existence
