X5gb, screenshots are OK; but, according to my tests, the frames don't match perfectly, and, even if they will, after the needed rescaling, difference in quality is negligible... so, if someone thinks that Shout has the right color grading, I'd stay with that; at the contrary, if someone thinks that UHD has the right color grading, it's always possible to regrade Shout using the UHD as color reference.

Taking in account only screenshots, IMHO the Divisa BD seems the best, biggest frame with "right" color grading.

Oh, thought they were dead on, thats MPC-BE for you. What do you use personally to get frame accurate screenshots at the correct resolution, I use Videoredo or Premiere normally for frame accurate editing but don't think you can you take good screenshots with that (madvr, lav etc).

I actually thought your tests were for a UAR or hybrid of the two sources to fix the off center framing of the Studio Canal, was that not the case,

The Scream's resolution is quite poor compared to the Studio Canal which is a major improvement outside of the framing (screenshots may not show the true extent of the upgrade), so isn't an option.

Is the Divisa from a 4k master and similar in resolution to the Studio Canal, I haven't seen it, only screenshots, because otherwise wouldn't a hybrid be better.

People get that the 4k is a SDR conversion and not a good one in those caps?

A possibly better alternative to the Shout is the German one by Constantin that uses the same 2K remaster as Shout but sharper:

It has the German title card that would need to be swapped, though.

Unfortunately the Constantin is just the Shout transfer with DNR added and some of the other problems fixed (something Evit's Restoration managed to fix without the use of DNR). Outside of the framing been incorrect the SC is a marked improvement in all other areas, still not sure if auto-overlay would be able to fix the framing using The Spanish Divisa (has the most frame of any available sources) as second source to replace the missing left and slight top/botton info, looks like SpoRv is of the opinion it isn't and Random.next has not answered whether he would be interested in this project.

Just got back from 'Carpenter Day' at my local cinema.
They Live, Prince of Darkness, Escape From New York & The Fog.
All we're the Studio Canal remasters projected in 4K.
I'm assuming they were DCP's. (They had a BBFC (U.K ratings board) card before starting and we're presented in scope AR)

'Escape' had the cropping problems, soft focus and was very dark! The audio was all over the place as well.
It was quite a disapointment to be honest and I'm unsure if this is actually a bit of a screw up on Studio Canal's part!
They Live & Prince of Darkness looked and sounded good. (I missed The Fog to be honest because I had to get home and it's not a favorite of mine).
Have Studio Canal made a statement or anything? I know the Blu release was delayed a month.

On a side note Prince Of Darkness went down a storm and was the Highlight by far. Complete silence and you could feel the tension in the theater.
Many we're commenting that they had not seen it before and it was not considered a audience 'draw' in the line up.
It really was a phenomenal experience!

No SC have not commented on the framing screw-up. Mentioned it over at the forum with blu in the title and the majority said its a non issue based on the fact the rest of the transfer is mostly great which to me is crazy as the framing is clearly off-center (similar to Rambo II 2011 remaster which was a problem, go figure) and detracts heavily (for me anyway) from the rest of the transfer. Ah well, such is life. Was hoping someone ended up picking up the baton here who is clued up with auto-overlay and is able to create a hybrid but maybe it is too difficult to achieve using either the Shout or Devisa as second source.

The spa is divisa only has slightly more image in tip and left. But it is just a notch, compared to the UK studio cabal BD.
Also the compression is really bad.

Its a little bit more than just a smidge (similar to the Shout, maybe a little more), more than enough to fix the framing error using it as second source in auto-overlay if possible (baring any inconsistences, blending, color timing etc which can't be fixed for the entire length andas its only a small percentage of info the compression shouldn't be much of an issue). The SC made the mistake of removing info from the left (plus a smidge top/bottom to keep geometry) but leaving everything the Shout / Divisa has on the right and hence this has made the credits and numerous scenes off-center to the right. The MGM had less on the left (like the SC) but compensated by taking away from the right (again a smidge top/bottom) and so the credits etc are more center like the Shout / Divisa.
