Out of curiosity: when you say it swapped the channels, was that meaning that it actually chucked them out of the wrong speakers? Or did you just mean they were stored in the "wrong" order? Because yeah, @Chewtobacca says, that's a normal thing: if you switch codecs you're *meant* to switch channel order to store it correctly for the given codec. It doesn't affect decoding/playback, just the order that it actually stores the hex data inside the file, that's it.

If it's actually putting it out of the wrong speakers, then I'd say use libdcadec and not just that but also make absolutely sure it's the latest version of libdcadec just in case (unless I'm mistaken, the latest eac3to still doesn't include it, presumably because eac3to hasn't been updated for ages).

I don't care what is the right/wrong internal/external order... I just want to hear, for example, a wistle on the right surround instead of right rear surround or vice versa!

DTS-HD MA channel order according to MediaInfo is

while eac3to converted WAV (and FLAC) is
L R C LFE Lb Rb Ls Rs

but if I load the DTS-HD MA into Audacity, only the first six channels are loaded as
L R C LFE Ls Rs
while eac3to converted WAV (and FLAC) loaded into Audacity is like in MediaInfo
L R C LFE Lb Rb Ls Rs

still DTS-HD MA 7.1 played in whatever video player plays the surround channels where they belong, while the WAV and FLAC swaps them.

Right, so you're saying it actually *is* sending the channels to wrong speakers, yes? It isn't just that you saw it switching channel orders in the files for storage purposes? If so, my guess would be that it's probably Arcsoft being odd, so: https://github.com/foo86/dcadec/releases/tag/v0.2.0 (if not already using that version).

You ought to care because a mistake in the former can lead to incorrect output in the latter.

To the best of my knowledge, that's the correct channel-order for WAV/W64/FLAC.  All MediaInfo can do is read the metadata, which can help you to ascertain whether the channel-order is correct for the codec.  What it cannot tell you is whether the content of each channel is correct.

If the player is not respecting the codec's channel-order, then it's a player issue.  If eac3to (or the decoder) has assigned channel content to the wrong channel, then that's different.  But we don't have the information to make that determination.  I'm still not sure which decoder you are using: Arcsoft or libdcadec.  Did you try ffmpeg to see if it makes a difference?  If the output of ffmpeg is the same as the output of eac3to in terms of channel-order/playback, then it's highly likely that it's a player issue.

just use a channel demo. I think on the dts demo discs are such things for 7.1. encode to another format with eac3to/ffmpeg and listen to the new file on your setup.
