I’ve never seen any of the Disney/Touchstone/Hollywood EEs released in HD. Wish they were but that would involve effort on Disney’s part to HD scan the footage as I think the DVDs were finished in SD. Honestly, I don’t know any were director approved.

I don't think that it was finished in SD, because the Extended DVD was released in 2006, just like the Gone In 60 Seconds, Con-Air and Enemy Of The State Extended DVD's, and they used the same HD masters as the Blu-Ray Versions of the Theatrical Cuts that were released in 2006-2008. By this time they would have been using HD, since SD was being phased out.

Interesting.

You do have a point on EOTS and Con Air. Both DVDs do look the same as the eventual BDs.

However I also have a point since Tombstone and Crimson Tide look nothing like their BDs.

And I’m pretty sure at least the EE Tombstone was put together from the master and deleted scenes created for the LD. I’d have to dig out my old Crimson Tide DVD (from the LD master) to see if it matches up with the EE DVD.

wow, the Tombstone DVD looks pretty bad, and the Crimson Tide DVD looks like a WAY older master.

The extended version runs on German TV a few weeks ago. I missed it to record it but my friend could record this movie in time. I will check it soon if the extended cuts were broadcasted in HD.

is the Extended Cut really good? than we can maybe make a hybrid Version between BD or Web-DL and DVD.

Here's the comparison between the Theatrical and Extended on Movie-Censorship.com. I've been considering just buying the Extended DVD sometime, but it's not very high up on my wishlist priority for physical media. It's not very expensive, though. If one were still in the USA, me, and buying used. 786936232967 is for the NTSC Extended DVD.
