Question about firmware...

I have the latest 1.21 firmware for Pioneer BDP-LX54 blu-ray player. As i pointed out before: i am not very much satisfied with the picture and sound quality. Do you think it's a good idea to install some of the previous firmwares? Do you think the quality will improve ? By the way, give me your thoughts for what is the best stuff for video and audio.

Before you do anything about your player, I would go through all your TV's settings and disable any noise reduction/"smooth motion"/motion interpolation/"contrast improvements" and any kind of automatic "improvements". Modern TVs, if not properly set up, actually degrade images to an incredible degree and make almost everything unwatchable.

I use projector Benq W750. There is a clarity control and i always keep it at 0.  Same option on the DVD player (DV-LX50) that i do not use currently: DNR is off and everything is in the middle.
Not sure what i am supposed to do since this BDP-LX54 does not have any option for picture tweaking. There is only option for sound: shift and normal. Shift is supposed to boost Dolby Digital when it's low volume - not sure how i would feel about that, so i use normal. Sound is not bad - actually pretty good but i find it lacks dynamics and finesse of DV-LX50.
My projector settings: brightness, saturation and sharpness is in the middle, color temperature is normal and contrast is on 35 (out of 100). There is also advanced fine tuning that i also left in the middle, but 'brilliant color' is turned on and gamma is Benq level.
I really have no idea how to make picture and sound be more punchy...

Well, if you want a picture to be "punchy" out of a projector, there are only two ways:

1. buy a really expensive one with a lot of brightness - better with laser light source
   
2. buy an OLED TV
   

If you put in direct comparison a projector with a TV, most of the time the former's image is much dimmer and "dull" than the latter, but it is the right way (well, sorta) to watch a movie like in a theater - don't expect DCI to be much brighter than 35mm, it is not... about MicroLED, it would change the way a movie is displayed in a theater, and I fear it would become like a super TV set on steroids, and so watching a movie in that way could lose its appeal.

I agree with everything you wrote, but that still does not justify how underwhelming BDP-LX54 is. I am not a big fan of picture/sound settings on players, but when they are there - it is a sign that makers really put some effort and passion in production.
