The Terminator (1984) Chace "Fake Stereo" LD Analog
#11
OK got some info on those Chace remixes. You're supposed to listen to it in Dolby Surround. It looks like mono in stereo, but in Dolby Surround, the M&E would be center tracked while the music would be in stereo. I will try it tonight and see. Apparently Shane also have a similar stereo mix from Chace.

If you kept the track as is, it should play good in Dolby Surround

That means if you extract front and center, and mux it with the surrounds and .1 from the remix, you could get a 5.1 unique mix that is the best of both worlds.

What do you think?

I am curious as to where you got this information from.

I kept the track "as-is," except (of course) for the syncing workWink

If you were to extract the front and center from this mix, you would need to make sure that the surrounds and the .1 from the remix are in a perfect sync, otherwise it will sound off in actual playback. Assuming this could be done easily and that there are no conflicting timing/different sound effects issues, this might sound interesting.

If you try to do this, I am happy to test it for you and give any feedback.

Unrelated, but I though I read that the 1997 Image DVD had some kind of 2.1 dual-mono+LFE track? Maybe that could be used instead of the LFE from the 2001 remix? Then you could at least have a 4.1 track. (Or would this Chace mix only be matrixed to LCR, no S?)

From what I understand after reading the post by Stamper, the Chase mix would be matrixed to LCR only and the surround plus .1 LFE would need to be sourced from other mix.

So, maybe, to create a "unique" audio mix we could:

- use matrixed LCR from Chase mix

- use .1 LFE from 1997 2.1 dual-mono-plus-LFE

- use surround from 5.1 remix

Found the info on the HTF forum re the Shane stereo mix by Chace. I just ran into that by accident, and suddenly it all made sense.

Chase remixes would be done using the M&E track and the voice audio track.

What they would do it put the voices center (hence why they sound louder in this mix) and mix the M&E in stereo on the left and right speakers.

Apparently they did it for a bunch of movies back in the 80's.

Is the 1989 LD mono, although the jacket says stereo?

There is a Hong Kong LD that is listed as having Dolby Surround.

I know the LDDB occasionally gets the specs wrong once in a while though.

Yes it's mono, the only two LDs of interests are the original time speeded one with the Chace remix, and the THX one with the correct original mono mix that has been ripped and is doing the rounds on the web synced to the new Blu-ray release.

AFAIK, that is the wrong speeded Version. It is also stated in the comment, that the Audio is pitched higher.

Also that is the Cover of the LD already ripped, and the Audio sync discussed here... Maybe there were two release with the same cover, but if not, that is the upspeeded version.
