hi, i'm new to the forum. is there a reason why i can't send PM someone?

That means only Dallas, Lambert and Ripley are left of the original Nostromo crew.

If somebody in the US fancies doing me a small favour by checking something, gimme a PM. Am curious about something.

Just finished watching From Dusk Till Dawn, the UK blu ray. Have to say the video wasn't very impressive but the audio sounded really bad. Muffled and quite, plus it looked out of sync at times. I thought it was something up with my setup at first but parts are in sync and parts seemed out. Anyone ever watched the LD and if so how did that sound? I've read about a 4k remaster but not sure if that is for UHD or streaming.

Sometimes I think Blackmagic doesn't want Resolve users to save and reopen projects to work on later, heh.

@pipefan413, nothing too serious for most users, but I can't correct the aspect ratio of anamorphic frames without also cropping them. Means I can't render and process any new frames until it's fixed. I haven't lost any files though so it's just a pause in my work rather than a catastrophe.

For anyone using Davinci Resolve I'd advise against upgrading to 17.1. If you do upgrade make sure you backup your database first. It's looking like I'll have to park my 35mm work until Black Magic fix some issues and release a new version.

I doubt there will be many people currently trying to encode 10-bit raw uncompressed analogue video captures to FFV1 but it appears that 2-pass mode is completely broken for anything that's more than 8-bit and I've just wasted like 2 days trying to figure out why before finally finding that it's a bug reported 5 years ago that still isn't fixed: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/5405

Umatic tape player opened up: https://www.reddit.com/r/VHS/comments/m0...for_scale/

Hi, someone from Poland, who might help me buy a specific DVD Release from a polish used item marketplace, receive the disc, and then could ship it to Germany? Every seller either says they dont ship internationally, or even did not answer.

I think that's a great idea, especially helpful when trying to track down a certain release that has something special about it.

Maybe we start to collect country specific 2nd hand market places in a thread...

Nice... Huuto.net is the Finnish 2nd hand market place... Signing up there was a pain, because it did not work with German phone number... I had to contact service of that page and they helped me...

Thanks again for your offer of help Mr Brown. I found a Norwegian marketplace in the past that someone helped me out with as you had to live in certain parts of Europe, can't remember the name of that one though. Also I have used https://en.todocoleccion.net/ several times for Spanish second hand stuff

Oh yeah, especially when looking in countries wher epeople do not use eBay that much, and rely more on local 2nd Hand Places. Often they are not even translated. But after successfully using a finnish languaged marketplace, the netherland marketplace feels kind of easy.. and I speak neither finnish nor dutch, whild knowing german and english helps with the dutch a bit... (but not with finnish at all)

Bot foremost: Thanks for the hint to that netherland 2nd Hand Marketplace. I always love to check 2nd Hand places in different countries for intersting stuff, that people dont put at ebay. Like I got John Woo Film DVDs from Finland on a finnish 2nd Hand marketplace.

I jump in to help. I am not from Netherlands, but close enough to help. everything in PM, but we do not need multiple people now to chime in.

Do we have any members in The Netherlands? I am trying to buy a DVD from Marktplaats but it won't let me register as I'm in the UK. I would cover all costs if anyone could buy it and rip it for me?

Fighting fantasy rings a bell, never had any though. Nostalgia's one hell of a drug

@Hitcher Yeah some of the later issues (50+) have gone for £150-200 each! They retailed for £3.99

@zoidberg Do you remember those Fighting Fantasy gamebooks we had in the UK? The prices of some of those are crazy on eBay. Anything remotely cult/geek/collectible/retro has just gone through the roof

Yeah, they were worthless for a while, now they are not (although ebay sellers are over-estimating their value/gouging what they think they can get away with prices). Same with VHS, cassettes, cine film

That's the same player I have, @alleycat. However I was lucky enough to get mine for just £1 before prices hyperinflated!

Nice Laserdisc player on ebay UK https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-DVL-9...874e6311f7

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON movies were pretty successful. But I don't know if you're counting animated films

Gerard Butler has such an odd career. He's kept working, but hasn't had a super successful movie since...what, 300?

Ive had an epic movie run! Greenland (2020) started it, then... Soul (2020), Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) and My Octopus Teacher (2020)!

Greenland (2020) was a nice suprise! Tense and Emotional. The first 1hr 20 mins is gold.

Funny thing is for all the disputes you have with people saying the current BD of The Terminator looking correct or not, there will most likely be no dispute that—if the UHD rumor is true—will most definitely need to be regraded given Arrow's track record LOL
Arrow video rumoured to be doing a Terminator UHD which should be great, their Robocop BD was fantastic

We're getting Speed and Heat on 4k blu later in the year! Maybe Disney are mellowing due to a combination of lost revenue due to covid and good sales shown in the physical media market.

anyone got info on that german forum with umatic regrades? it's been offline since monday it seems.

Nothing. But when you're ready to post, there a new window that appear and you can create it then. Just found out about it. Thanks to ask.

Hey hey, what happens when you click the "Attach a poll" box when creating a new thread?

Hello all. Quick question. How do we create new polls in a new thread ? I tried to check earlyer but I couldn't find anything about this. Can anyone please help ?
from the description: ALL specs are identical to v2.0, but with an improved color-correction pass for all SE footage of Bud in the NTI chamber toward the end of the film. This sequence stuck out to me from the surrounding theatrical shots when I watched v2.0. v2.1 will be the last version of this project.

Yeah that's the only one I could find as well even though v2.1 has been released.

Personally I'd recommend trying to hunt down the latest version of The Abyss SE:HD https://youtu.be/ioOsagqjwMQ

Hey folks, I haven't seen The Abyss yet. I see there's a HDTV Open Matte rip of the Extended cut floating around: should I go for that one?

I've been offline for a bit but wanted to wish a belated happy new year to everyone!

Not sure if it's a dodgy 10-bit -> 8-bit / HDR -> SDR conversion or if the 4K version is also way too contrasty. But I can literally just crank the luma level way too high on the LaserDisc and it looks similar, so I'm assuming it's Not Right.

Man, has anybody had a good look at the newer master of THE DARK CRYSTAL? Screenshots of 1080p one just look like somebody cranked the contrast up to 11 and called it a day.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I wish you all the best of health as we head into 2021.

Merry Christmas you lot. Thanks for helping me cope with the calamity that was 2020.
