About Shining cut with deleted scene: if it will end up at "only" 3700$, it will be a bargain (even if I'm pretty sure final price will be a lot higher!)
“ 'The Shining' fans may want to save their money for what is probably the most lucrative item being sold: A rare cut of the iconic horror film featuring a deleted scene never released." -- http://www.indiewire.com/2018/03/stanley...201941830/
"CX is a noise reduction system for recorded analog audio. ... CX would later see success as the noise reduction used for the stereo analog audio tracks on the LaserDisc format. ... its primary reason for adoption was to decrease the amount of interference between the right channel's FM audio carrier and the video carrier's first chroma sideband." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CX_(audio)
That LDDB listing is in error. (The U.S. discs don't even have CX and I own a few.) Only the Japanese TOS LD's have digital sound. They only came out in season box sets which tend to be expensive even today.
However some have noted some errors in the mono or a few places where they used a folddown of the 5.1. There's an OT thread somewhere, but on the whole for a ridiculously low price you get almost everything in the original mono.
I'm very curious to try those LDs but they'd be insanely expensive. For my first TOS viewing last year I got the BDs and they are on the whole excellent-with the original versions and mono selectable on the main menu.
Don't leave out laserdiscs -- they are the earliest, "quality" releases, unless you can find TV-distribution film (all faded red by now, no doubt). BTW, the only non-original sound (in the LDs and videotape releases) is an old, "crooner" song in the first season's "City On The Edge Of Forever" because they didn't want to pay royalties. So it was replaced with sound-alike music. The original song was later restored to it's rightful place in the later DVD release and thereafter (after paying the royalty).
Thanks, YouTube ... using technology for obfuscation. I came across a YouTube "blocked in your country" message. But WHERE a video is actually restricted? Nope, they ain't sayin'. Ha! Who needs'em! Just use this -- https://unblockvideos.com/youtube-video-...n-checker/
Hmm ... I wonder if this article, from a few months ago, is any indication? "Intel drags Xeon Phi Knights Hill chips out back... two shots heard" https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/11/16...ghts_hill/ "To recap the Xeon Phi line: it's not for your common or garden server, workstation or desktop. It's aimed at supercomputer gear with machine code instructions to dash through operations on matrices and other blobs of data at high speed in parallel."
How about converting it (with something like "SWF to MP4 Converter" - https://convertio.co/swf-mp4/ , or some downloadable software if you prefer to keep it offline)?
@ poita -- If the above-mentioned Allavsoft downloader can't find the embedded link to download from a page (and it did work well catching ABC's vid), they switch to their resizeable, video/audio screen-capture mode and grab it as it's playing. I tested that on a YouTube video segment and it worked. Haven't tried a 1080p showing as fullscreen yet. Definitely grab the "5-download trial version" and test it for you use and then, maybe, get it on sale (I think 2 days remain). That should easily catch any .SWF "media" as a working video.
Definitely upgrade the 4kVideoDownloader. They must keep updating it to keep it operational as YouTube transitions, whereas 2 add-ons I used have moved on to the new FF version/engine and are no longer updating their previous add-ons, which are mostly useless now. The online downloaders are fine for resolutions @ 720p and under, but you must use their apps and/or subscribe to go higher (if higher resolutions exist).
@BronzeTitan as for the plugin I recommended, I had to basically wait till it had downloaded the whole video in that pop up box (using Vivaldi, a chromium-based browser) and then I was asked to save it. So I needed to keep the webpage open until it was downloaded before I was even asked where to save it ... it's not solved perfectly
Specifically, if the swf file contains vector animation, you can guess that remuxing it is not really possible, though converting it to something more "usable" may be
@poita Maybe in a limited number of cases that is theoretically possible, when a normal video is somehow embedded in the swf file. But an swf file generally consists of a variety of things, including graphics, simple or complex programming, vector animations, etc, none of which are compatible with traditional containers I know of, though there are tools to reverse engineer swf files and extract some of the programming and resources (like images/graphics or whatever). Typically videos aren't embedded in swf files, but loaded as separate .flv files, which can be remuxed without problems. But I would say, as a general rule, it depends on the swf file you have.
Of late, I been having problems with YouTube changing their video delivery and Firefox's YT downloading addons not keeping up. In the newer & changed versions of FF, they may work, but other add-ons that only work in the previous FF versions are not ones I wish to abandon. So, not to leave well enough alone, I kept looking and came across a free, stand-alone YouTube downloader (which can fill the FF-addon gap): 4k Video Downloader https://www.4kdownload.com . Works well, like the old ones used to.
Thanks! ... only it didn't work (at all) even though Firefox (this version 51) accepted it. Tried some DL sites ("save"-this, "keep"-that, blah-blah) but only one could even find it. That one saved ... a 360p .MP4 video. BUT, with all the searching around, I came across a stand-alone downloader (free trial or on sale $12) Allavsoft http://www.allavsoft.com . It DL'ed the 720p 600mb file from ABC (I poked around and extracted the video link -- https://abcnews.go.com/video/embed?id=53204229) in it's original .MP4 format, of course.
What I get from reading the kickstarter is that the money taken in goes to create the cover of the book? Maybe they have commisioned someone to do it and need the extra cash to pay them so the print can be released for publishing said book?
Have you noted that from yesterday, is not possible to see images directly into google image searching anymore? You got to visit the website each time...
Did some of you back the kickstarter because it passed its goal today? Still plenty of time if you want to jump onboard, should be an interesting book!
IIRC, there were some early copy protection schemes (pre macrovision) that didn't play nice with certain brands of VCR's, even when connected straight to a tv. One could get buzzing in the audio sometimes.May have been a side effect not intentional. Used to drive me nuts when I would take a rental back to the store and it played perfectly on whatever they were using. I suspect to this day they had one of those little black video stabalizer boxes installed just to avoid givng refunds. Cheap bastards!
Also, after some searching the web, also no evidence that there where any audio stream based copy protection on VHS. Also no hint that macro vision would temper the audio...
Hey guys, quick question: are there any known VHS copy protection methods that interfere with audio? I know that different flavors of Macrovision messed up with video, changing it's brightness and color, but none of those ever did anything to the audio signal, right?
Mhm... Okay, seems as if my PC has problems to decrypt a uhd BD... But at least I got no error putting the disc in, and try to play it on a definitive not new enough PC to start a uhd BD at all...
Hope that gets straightened out wihtout too much trouble. Coincidentally, FanRes did a "shut down" just a little while ago but it's back up now (obviously). The gods enjoy their entertainment.
Bad news: a fiber cut knocked me offline just a few hours ago, and I don't know when I'll be back online (even as we speak, I'm forced to use a cell phone to type all this), so I don't know when I'll be able to get out my test release. But I will try to get it out there as soon as I can.
I am just trying to get the UHD BD of Terminator 2 from my UHD BD to my HDD, just to check if my PC is capable of Playing 4K (on a HD TV)... finger crossed... Would love to check the colors on the 4K...
[from the same site] - "I still don't buy that [false memory theory]. I've seen movies that have had bits cut out from soon after the initial release (for instance, in the 1980s Batman, the Joker's "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" was soon cut to "Get those wonderful toys.") It was a long time from when I saw the movie until I could read the book, if I ever read it."
Funny! Never noticed that! (Then again, there's no trusting George Lucas and his CG revisionism.) Okay ... now show me Luke throwing his grappling-hook twice! -- "I saw Staw Wars 7 times in the first week, and several times thereafter. I saw Luke throw and miss. Don't tell me I dreamed it, or got it from another source -- I didn't read the novelization. My college friends and I discussed it after one of those 7 viewings and we all wondered why, while Luke was messing with the rope, that the stormtroopers didn't just shoot under the door." - https://movies.stackexchange.com/questio...edited-out
Chris Solo, paging Chris Solo, your party is waiting for you at the service desk. Please pick up any service phone near your location. Chris Solo, your party has arrived and is looking to communicate with you. That is all. [I am just kidding of course.]
I never realised that Silence of the Lambs is a romance comedy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCoTiU0S85Y I nearly lost it when the "bars couldn't keep them apart" caption popped up!
Enough fun of that topic... It's funny that people really believe in such things... Seriously... Next step of this Chemtrail theory would be that clouds are infumed with something like "aeorsolbombs" as "large scale Chem transports" And that just because the flight traffic got that much more in the last decades, that the effect occurs more often that a contrails has the optimum of surrounding not to fade away, but to Form some cloud.
As a veteran I received all sorts of shots on my entry to the military. I don't get vaccinated regularly either so if there is some sort of long outcome cocktail being created I'm screwing it up, lol.
With the big push of "flu shots", has everyone gotten their's? Or maybe you shouldn't (notice my great segue of related subjects). "Ground Zero: Shots In The Dark" http://www.groundzeromedia.org/1-31-18-shots-dark/
The stop memos were send out.. I did that myself.. problem: water does not want to stop its behalve of being kind of an anomality regarding temperatures...
