At least I got the formula down for field dominance reversal... and yes, I just now tested it on the file where I discovered the anomaly.
avatar
Let's just say there's a reason why PBS prefers interlaced content to be top field first, in accordance with Red Book specifications. Right now, I'm having problems with interlaced content which had been encoded bottom field first.
avatar
As Scully says (okay, I watch X-Files, too): "The answers are there. You just have to know where to look." Wink
avatar
I know ... you think I watch too much X-Files. Well, I watch too much cartoons. Okay, so they're X-Files cartoons ... "ReBoot: Trust No One" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRFhJROL19w Big Grin

Don't let GOOGLE in your HOME! (Get it? Google Home? Smile ) They think it's 1984 and that they are Big Brother -- https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=abraham+lincoln -- see the Google box to the right. Abraham Lincoln was in the "National Union Party"? Say what? What other propaganda do we get? And why? Time to look for another search engine -- "Orwell's Nightmare: The NSA and Google" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-w-whi...10171.html Woo
avatar
Yeah, it's a long shot. But that guy is never going to give up looking for it. Everybody has their own movie holy grail I guess.
avatar
Possible uncut... With running time of 58 minutes, after deleting the commercial breaks? I doubt that...
avatar
Anybody in Germany that could record a possible uncut version of The Land Before Time? http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-Lan.../4#1096553
avatar
A project thread is already created; you can find it in the In-Progress section.
avatar
Another project thread? I hope? Smile
avatar
Anyway, once I start with the encoding process, I'm going to send a test file depicting a barebones encoding of the series premiere, "Mainframes to Minis to Micros", in MP4 format via WeTransfer. Feedback from those who receive it next week would be much appreciated.
avatar
So, it looks like Season 1 is going to be complete after all.
avatar
Well! That appears to be an even better resource than Internet Archive, at least as far as getting the correct episode orders is concerned!
avatar
A good resource (may or may not be duplicated at Internet Archive) --> http://stquantum.xtreemhost.com/ ... with .PDF show notes --> http://stquantum.xtreemhost.com/cc/content/
avatar
BTW I'm getting them from Internet Archive so I can get the MPEG-2 files, which are more easily converted to the 720p60 format in which I'll be doing this project.
avatar
Also did that.
avatar
Check through YouTube, too. Bunches are there.
avatar
Internet Archives is where I get those episodes. There is an episode on utilities from Season 4, but in regards to that topic, that's just about it.
avatar
"Computer Chronicles" (and "Net Cafe") host Stewart Cheifet - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_Cheifet - and interviewed on TWiT - https://twit.tv/shows/triangulation/episodes/114
avatar
I think I recently checked out an episode of Computer Chronicles that actually showed a LD-R
avatar
Computer Chronicles! Awesome retro-tech!! Definitely check Internet Archives -- a lot of these kind of things wind up there.
avatar
Any French collector of VHS around here? Eheh
avatar
OK, as I prepare to work on my aforementioned Computer Chronicles project, it appears there's one missing episode from Season 1, centering on software utilities. I believe it's the 20th episode of Season 1.
avatar
I just can't seem to find any info about the actual "master" used to create the French VHS, sorry.
avatar
Evit, here's another link that "might" be helpful. http://www.worldcat.org/title/bandits-ba...referer=br
avatar
Sorry evit, it was the best info I could find. Smile
avatar
Jetrell Fo, I wish we had such a similar archive for all Italian releases! My question was not much about if it ever existed on VHS but rather if the French VHS was from French theatrical master, with French title and credits, rather than from US master.
avatar
A bit of a teaser for a future project, to be released sometime next year. In 1983, the PC market was in its development stages. The IBM PC was just setting the standard for the computer industry. The Macintosh wasn't even available yet! Join Stu and Gary as they explore this young world of microcomputers and what made them special back in the day. Because no matter how powerful your computer, you just know they've all got to start somewhere.
avatar
avatar
(French title: Bandits, bandits)
avatar
Doesn anybody know if Time Bandits was ever published on VHS in France with French theatrical credits? I only found this advert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVBCq5oDnrc
avatar
Koopa, just use Film Convert. There's no grain plate you will come out with that will emulate as well as FC as it has years of development, plus you can tweak everything from the inside. It works with DaVinci, FCPX etc
avatar
Details to come in a future thread, after I've audited every last detail in regards to film stocks.
avatar
As I finally get my new Lenovo laptop with DaVinci Resolve 14 ready to work on my projects, I'm going to need some clean film grainplates, so as to emulate an authentic film look as closely as possible, because I'm pretty sure from the feedback here that even the grainplate that came with Resolve isn't going to do me any good.
avatar
I'll send you another copy that includes English and German, don't worry about it Big Grin
avatar
He is not completely wrong: said off DVD Edition has no English audio, only Italian audio, and I don't understand Italian... Big Grin (but it is a version not on another DVD in my collection)
avatar
There can be only one
avatar
... But... But... But it is in my collection... My.. Preciousss! Tongue
avatar
Give it up, you don't even need it! Tongue
avatar
He just wants a few of the DVDs in my collection... I think it only was one... A silly movie... "Highlander 2"...Big Grin
avatar
I also didn't notice any pirate ships and treasure chests just lying around either, arrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhh.
avatar
It's not the 4th Wink lol
avatar
Good, Mr Brown. Add more loot to the treasure that I'll be stealing from you!
avatar
"The Evil Dead" first video release, before it was banned...
avatar
Yay me! I bought an old German VHS tape... Hope it arrives until weekend... Want to check title credits...
avatar
YAY ME!!! I just picked up the U.S. Shin Godzilla Bluray and the digital code gave me the english and japanese version of the film. WAY COOL!!!!
avatar
the nice fellows at screenshotcomparison had the database full, so what? They wiped out all comparisons made before today!!! Eek
avatar
Koopa: thread moved to technical subforum
avatar
Anyway... anyone know any 70mm grainplates I could use to simulate 70mm blowups, be they OAR blowups or cropped-to-standard blpowups?
avatar
BTW is there a smiley for "egg on face"? Because that's exactly how I'm feeling right now.
avatar
I never actually thought of that! Could someone please move it there? Thanks!
avatar
. . maybe in Technical Info?
avatar
That would make a great thread! (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
avatar
It'll be good practice for original projects I plan on doing at some point in the future.
avatar
Currently, I'm trying my hand at reconstructing 5.1 surround audio from stuff only available in 2-channel stereo.
avatar
BronzeTitan, you are very attentive, bravo! Evit, ci sentiamo quando torni.
avatar
Ciao til the 4th or after. Smile
avatar
If anyone asks about me I'm away until the 4th and might not be able to reply. Ciao

" From Film to Delivery." https://forum.fanres.com/thread-1415-page-3.html <--??

An interesting article about The Godfather saga restoration: http://web.archive.org/web/2008072415044.../page1.php wanted to add it to a related thread - that I think was made, but can't find it anymore...
avatar
Quickly now, since I'm about to make my choice. Given the choice between the HP Omen gaming desktop, the Asus ROG Strix GL753, and the Lenovo Legion Y720, which would you recommend?
avatar
I think it was one of those "can I have a myspleen because I love star wars long time invite" people but I have no proof, just a feeling.
avatar
I would hate to think it was a forum member. Anyone could lurk and copy that information used in the ebay listings though.
avatar
I don't think Koopa was talking about eBay. At least I didn't think he was.
avatar
Ebay is not going to tell anyone who it is.
avatar
@Koopa, as far as I know, they have not figured out who it is.
avatar
avatar
Regarding the sale of Harmy's DEs... it's one thing to make custom packaging and labels for copies for personal use, but selling them is just wrong. Has the person who dared offer them for sale been blacklisted yet?
avatar
Glasses free will be some variation of lenticular screen
avatar
And giant freaking tv's is hardly a new idea. Wink https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbotron
avatar
I would think glasses free 3D at theaters is going to be a giant monitor of some sort. It's what Cameron wants ready when Avatar 2 finally comes out.
avatar
Cinema will never truly die.
avatar
The price of these big TVs is going to be very prohibitive. I think this installation is a publicity stunt for samsung
avatar
At least Tarantino and Nolan are trying to keep 70mm alive and kicking. Wish I could afford to go see Dunkirk on film. The preview I saw in front of Rogue One when I saw it in 70mm IMAX was stunning.
avatar
Seriously... things are going down and down. Cinema is dying. 35mm was the real deal. The digital era is killing the movie industry.
avatar
Woohoo! I had that odd feeling already being in a cinema and watching a DCP... it felt like I was home watching a movie on my TV. Now I guess it's definitely going to be like watching your freaking TV! I don't wanna pay almost the price of a Blu-ray disc to see the same stuff without having the possibility of setting the volume...
avatar
It's a big telly

Samsung Installs First Cinema LED Display: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/L...more/39613
avatar
Now that I've had a chance to think about it some, whatever happens, happens. The places I might care about made it clear they don't care about me so there is really nothing I can do. Why waste the positive energy on it when it can be put towards better things.
avatar
avatar
I sent my recommendations to Myspleen admin on this so it's in their hands now.
avatar
Caring about a site can make one a "loose end" I guess.
avatar
It would be in their best interest as a site to protect themselves even if the ban of invites is temporary until this gets solved but what do I know. Sad
avatar
re: Jay (at OT) - "We ❤️ Star Wars and give it all the moneys. Please don't sue us." Big Grin
avatar
harmy's star wars were on ipt before as well, havent used that site in around 10 months, but everything leaks to there
avatar
Although a certain paradoxical site seems to have vanished of late.
avatar
Besides, kicking a hornet's nest is not a good idea -- they sting EVERYTHING in the area. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink?
avatar
You can download Harmy's DSE via rar links accessible from his facebook page.
avatar
I'm going to talk with the myspleen admin. Maybe they will put a temporary closure on new members coming in for the time being.
avatar
As far as I know, Harmy does not condone the selling of his versions, I would think NJVC feels the same. Whomever it is, is printing the discs and all the artwork to boot, but it doesn't justify stealing either way. I'd bet it was someone who went to OT.com begging for a myspleen invite. If Jay is the admin he says he is, he'd stop the flow of invites out of OT immediately until further notice.
avatar
Aw, guys? Cut'em some slack. Defense lawyers are expensive at half the price! For a mere 30 songs, "Jury orders student to pay $675,000 for illegally downloading music" http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=8226751 Multiply that by the biggest block-buster franchise of movies ever and those guys should double/triple their Buy-It-Now's. Big Grin
avatar
don't know if the piracy ads at the start of original copies have changed much in the USA, but they used to have a thing in that screen that said piracy funds terrorism, so they have had the outlet to bring in the big guns againsus the whole time, military intelligence and there is nothing any of us can do to stop them locating us, they are the system, vpn's and all that crap are worthless against them
avatar
yes, absolutely, I think it is getting towards that time anyway, when the uploaders should be at least thinking seriously about whether they should be risking this for too much longer, if at all, the curtains are beginning to close, which was always inevitable, they were always going to win if they started to try to win, they outgun us, pure and simple
avatar
My rage is not regarding the law breaking part... More the possible consequences... And with money involved these consequences may come faster...
avatar
Also, thus sellers may even bring project makers to stop sharing finished projects, if they have to fear finding them on eBay...
avatar
dont get me wrong MrBrown, I am not in favor of or defending the actions of the people selling this stuff, I think it sucks, but we all know what we do here, we are breaking the law(s) of various countries, so it is a tad hypocrytical when we start pointing fingers at others breaking the law in different ways
avatar
surprised the CEO of Disney doesnt want to own ebay, would be rather easy for them to sue them into the floor if there is more than one count
avatar
Just that it is not a new thing it doesn't make it any better... Calculate it that way: The person sells 12 burned and printed discs 8 printed sheets of paper, 5 BluRay cases for 190 usd. Let's say his material costs are about... 20-30 usd... His time spending: 6 hours (he may print and cut the papers while burning the discs...) so... He makes about 160 dollars per 6 hours of work... Most of it waiting until the burning process finished... That's roughly 25 usd per hour... How much of that does go to the ones who spend time into the realization of the project in the first place? 0. They just get the trouble if the companies start to pursue...
avatar
lol, hadnt thought of that, ebay complicit in piracy ... lmfao
