avatar
The UK calls 30 degree temps a "heatwave"!! LOL
avatar
If they work from negatives it must mean that they are going to re-do the title cards, right? I hope they pick the exact same font
avatar
This is a big release for Arrow. They're going to do a great job
avatar
Wasn't the 35th anniversary edition of Halloween the same as the old Criterion LD though and more closer to it's original cinema presentation? the 1999 THX DVD was a Cundy apporved 'revision' saying it was closer to what they were trying to acheive back in 1978? Correct me if i'm wrong though?
avatar
Wasn't the Scream Factory release from last year also supervised by Cundey?
avatar
None of those guys knows how their films look like. It's too long ago and they did too many films in between.
avatar
So we can be sure it will look bland with zero color correction like Halloween does I guess
avatar
This new 4K restorayion from the original negative is being supervised by both Dean Cundy and John Carpenter and thats direct from Stuart Cohen (Producer)
avatar
I'm ready to regrade it as well! Happy
avatar
Yeah Arrow announced it earlier this year, it will be interesting to see how it differs from the Shout release
avatar
Looks like Arrow is preparing a restoration of The Thing in 4k https://twitter.com/ArrowFilmsVideo/stat...5211807744
avatar
So when do we get 3D trailers? Smile

re: BLADE RUNNER 2049 Making-Of Featurette -- my favorite part is ... "See it REAL 3D" :-O
avatar
And that is why we can't have nice things...
avatar
Invites on CG have been disabled for a while, since some vindictive ex-member tried to bring the site down.
avatar
@althor ... CG = CinemaGeddon
avatar
Hell, I still can't get an invite for there, lol. I had one guy on myspleen tell me he'd hook me up when they got things sorted and that's the last I heard of it.

What is CG?
avatar
I'm having trouble DLing new files from CG. Everything I've already DL'd seeds just fine, but anything new I pull down never connects. Is anyone else experiencing the same?
avatar
Let me know if you need any help with Data Structures and Algorithms, Colek. My degree is in CS.
avatar
Today's Data Structure and Algorithms, tomorrow Physics.
avatar
@Colek wow, what's the exam on?

I am procrastinating, so I visit it every few minutes rather than learn for today's exam.

Star Wars reality-check by Glenn and crew ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6MvMWyIpOs&t=60m40s Big Grin
avatar
That's pretty cool indeed and good to know. It's also weird since we usually keep the credits very close to the originals but oh well.
avatar
Basically, the English credits use the standard fades, while the French credits have everything wiping in from left to right, which looks rather cool IMO.
avatar
Just found that French Die Hard trailer which is very interesting color wise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDg9AkYRWCc
avatar
I didn't even know the English credits were different Woo
avatar
Those closing credits for Die Hard 2 in French look better than the English credits, that's for sure! I just wish there was a way to make a clean version of the final shot so I could recreate those French credits in HD...
avatar
Yes, including a downmix is never a bad idea. The problem is that it makes it difficult to work out whether the original audio is present or not. If you run the decoded streams through Spek, you should be able to see whether or not you have two different mixes.
avatar
@Bigrob in the case of Escape from New York, Scream Factory also included a 2.0 mix which was a downmix from 5.1. I don't know how common downmixing is for them but I have to guess that any film containing both 5.1 and 2.0 tracks is potentially a 2.0 downmix. They say it's for maximum compatibility with all audio systems.
avatar
Just came back from a 35mm screening of Silence of the Lambs, and boy, that DS mix is a beast! The low ends rumble very loudly in the asylum, gunshots are very loud and present, and it takes the 5.1 mix by a mile. The image is very similar to the BD in color, but in 2 scenes, the contrast was noticeably different, and effectively so (Avoiding spoilers here, for those who haven't had the pleasure).
avatar
You'd probably have to check them on a case-by-case basis.
avatar
Scream Factory Blu-Ray's. Are the 2.0 tracks the original audio mix or are they the 5.1 mixes down mixed?
avatar
I was going to wait until the back-to-school sale period, one of three in the year when computers go on sale, but the constant failures my Dell laptop's enduring, and the time wasted from those failures alone, have forced my hand.
avatar
Good news: I might be getting a new computer soon, finally.

"poita - Damn you Britain and USA trying to steal Australia's rightful place as the land of political turmoil." USA just won the crown: yesterday's Virgina GOP senators baseball practice s̶h̶o̶o̶t̶i̶n̶g̶. mass political assination attempt. And the U.S. "fake news" media is still calling it a "shooting"! We're No.1, right?
avatar
Any remixing done for LD tends to be pretty light in touch compared to DVD/BD
avatar
All time? Really? For every kind of tracks? AFAIK DD were a direct port of theatrical tracks, while DTS were just an APT-X -> DTS Coherent Acoustics conversions...
avatar
Soundtracks were altered for near field home viewing all the time for LD, unfortunately.
avatar
Check the tech. Info at IMDB
avatar
Just use the LD tracks - they should be 99% theatrical mixes! Happy
avatar
avatar
I don't want to include home video surround upmixes.
avatar
I'd like to include a surround mix with encodes for my digital movie library, but only if it's a legit original surround mix.
avatar
Is there some place to check if a film had a surround mix prepared at the time of its theatrical debut?
avatar
John Wayne? In Star Wars? Yep ... and sounds just like him, too. Wink

I recall a service which allowed parents to rent a DVD from some company and then send them notes on how they wish to cut it, and the company would just censor it for them. It's no different than TV versions (At least in the states), so I don't see a problem. Even though there are films which even you cut out the graphic images, will still have adult themes.
avatar
It even could be interesting for preservation, if they are changed with audio redubs and such....
avatar
If the clean versions really are "available at no additional charge as an ‘extra’ included with the original theatrical version of movies in the program", I see no problem.
avatar
It's the same think I've thought... gritty, punchy, more violent and sensual... they would be PG-35, though! Happy
avatar
They should make 'dirty' versions available too
avatar
avatar
Oh, Sony want's to start, to bring some clean movie versions (Versions censored for flight companies and Television Broadcast) to some vod services as choice to the normal Theatrical versions...
avatar
I'm interested and we have the LD PCM track for it
avatar
I'll try and grab them tomorrow.
avatar
Post some examples in the proposal section bigrob

Has anyone considered a regrade of Die Hard 2? There were some screencaps that showed that the BD is headed different from the THX LD / DVD release?

@ spoRv -- Lynda Carter, still yummy at 66 -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynda_Carter

And also some Israeli "chutzpah" which suited perfectly with being an Amazon in 1918 England.

And yeah, Gal Gadot started as your average model, but in contrast to Bar Refaeli, she rose above that with commitment and sheer will power

I'm from Israel and can confirm that. When I joined, a short 8 years ago, it was 3 years for men.
avatar
Damn you Britain and USA trying to steal Australia's rightful place as the land of political turmoil.
avatar
The normal length of compulsory service is currently two years and eight months for men (with some roles requiring an additional four months of service), and two years for women.
avatar
I loved Lynda Carter when I was a boy! Heart but AFAIK the military service is mandatory for women, too, in Israel... one of our members could eventually confirm that!
avatar
It seems the star of the movie was a bit of a wonder woman in real life: "Gal Gadot was born and raised in Rosh HaAyin, Israel. .. served for two years as an enlisted soldier in the Israel Defense Forces .. She says of her time as a soldier: "You learn discipline and respect. .. [Fast And Furious] director Justin Lin really liked that I was in the military, and he wanted to use my knowledge of weapons." Yeah ... but can she do this: https://m.popkey.co/9c0f31/DYyLq_s-200x150.gif ? Wink

Just got back from seeing Wonder Woman with my daughter. FREEKIN AWESOME is all I can say. Smile
avatar
"Shrek" parodied "Cops", too--remember that scene in "Shrek 2" where some of the characters are watching a series called "Knights"?
avatar
Haven't seen it. I only know the name of "Kevin Smith" (never met him but he always popped up here & there on the Internet) from his "Clerks" movie/short (haven't seen it, but I have seen someone else's "Troops" -- a "Cops" parody [excellent!] in the Star Wars universe).
avatar
OK, but, without other's words, have you seen it? What do you think of?
avatar
Tusk (2014) -- rottentomatoes.com's TomatoMeter is at 41% -- "Tusk is pleasantly ridiculous and charmingly self-deprecating, but that isn't enough to compensate for its thin, overstretched story."

^ ^ ^ It's okay. Trump's a clever guy and got his detractors talking "covfefe" while he gets his work done without the hailstorm of "fake news". Smile
avatar
What's going on here, then?
avatar
Oh, dear, dear, dear!
avatar
Just what we need, OT.com trolling of "covfefe" and "Trump". Sad

Do you want to come back to my covfefe, bouncy bouncy?
