That's funny because he got time to multiple projects like documentaries and other stuff, but remastering his films for the last 20 years took a backseat.
who's seeing ABYSS 4k tonight w/me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cCVYAcIIAo

"Streaming started to blur the lines and say, 'Well, what is a movie? Is Birdbox a movie? It looks like a movie, and it quacks like a movie. It's got Sandra Bullock in it, but it was never seen in a theater." lol

James Cameron on why his movies haven't been remastered earlier: "I think what people don't appreciate is that it is basically a week of my time to do a proper transfer" yeah, James, that's it, lol.

People are so used to Netflix and other digital look, they don't know film anymore or how it does look like for real, even on the O-neg.

Now, when people get 4K remaster, and realise half the shot in the film are out of focus, or have blurry problems, they go apes--t.
https://twitter.com/hdmoviesource/status...6453632280 So is this what we've come to? We kept asking for more resolution, more sharpness, more clarity; finally on UHD we're getting it, and now he thinks its too much and prefers the softness and bluriness of older media? JFC
@The Aluminum Falcon I would kill for a nice 4k HDR of Magnolia. I knew Boogie Nights was a foregone conclusion since PTA has been screening a new 70mm print of it

For True Lies? I don't think revisionism would be the issue here, I don't recall seeing any on the streaming version. Color correction would definitely be in order though

You mean like in T2? I don't like these changes. I like these goofs and little "errors"

HO BOY! CAMERONMAS! And look, they put my picture on the box! https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-tw...11523-0659
well, how about that, I learned a secret trick/hack/loophole for HDR conversion.. DM if you'd like it

That's what I said to myself when T2 in 4K was announced. What a let down it was when I saw the movie on 4KBD

Never ever judge a video transfer by YouTube. They have some of the worst compression around. I thought it looked eerily similar to the HDTV version I saw on HBO some years ago.

But knowing Cameron's distaste for film grain, this and probably True Lies, will be another DRN mess

I remember people complaining about DNR on the titanic trailer on youtube then saying the DCP looked a lot better. I didn't get the chance to see it myself though

Is the footage in the trailer scrubbed like hell? DNR mess or just Youtube encoding?

The Abyss coming back to theaters >> Trailer >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cCVYAcIIAo

Is it significantly different? Do they still fix the order of events so the Chinese dialogue doesn't have to be dubbed?
I can confirm Mann's D.C. of BLACKHAT is still yet a 3rd revison cut, even slightly different than the D.C he showed in 2016 and then later aired in 2017 on FX/DirectTV/TNT.
https://github.com/Asd-g/avslibplacebo#tone-mapping this does a decent job when you are tonemapping using Avisynth frame server
@Falcon in the latest version of Avidemux, use the "HDR Tone mapping" function setting under the "Video" tab at top. You can also set it permanently under Preferences. : https://i.imgur.com/uAW1nw6.jpg

Are you just watching or meaning to color correct the results? I used FFMPEG, others use ripbot264

Handbrake automatically does this quite well. Premiere pro you have to adjust the calibration yourself. But if there are regulars who do it with better tools, I'm interested.

Hi everyone, what is currently the simplest and most effective way to convert HDR to SDR ?
sure y'all know this but the latest version of MPC in Win10 (and 11 no doubt) play Dolby Vision with ease, (I'm doing the Video Renderer, not MadVR) and no tone mapping hack thats really SD over HDR. I confirmed this because the thumbnail when I scroll is still that weird mostly shades of purple+green, but the actual playback itself looks great.

Conan The Barbarian + Destroyer coming from Arrow in 4K https://www.arrowvideo.com/conan-the-bar...76084.html

DCPs are a different aspect ratio to home formats, either 1.85, 2.39 or 1.9. The imager chip/panel is 1.9:1

Myspleen suddenly saying my password is wrong? Anyone else having issues? Won't let me change either
3840x2160 > 1920x1080. Prob select "Square pixels". Leave FPS, colors, full/limited colorspace to same/default.
theres guides on videohelp, doom9, etc. But essentially you load in the source into a video editor like virtualdub, tmpgenc, handbreak, Ripbot, Premiere, Vegas, etc. and set the output to 1080p

How do I convert a video's colourspace when converting it from UHD to normal HD?
Super off topic but I managed to score "Daft Punk - Random Access Memories" 10-year anniversary ed., in Dolby Atmos. DM me if you'd like a copy
Looks like Moshrom/Blah-ray is back in action after a long hiatus: https://blah-ray.blogspot.com

Hoping for a return to form for John Woo: https://youtu.be/iCNsLqHr4d0?si=He8KlGPxkjE8F0ZH
^^this is the way. I believe Miami Vice and Battlestar Galactica are like that in 4:3

Just one question please, is it safe to do a BD compat encode in 1440x1080? It's a 4:3 anime

Ive not watched it in this form only both SAC series. I think there was another one that did the same.

GITS The Lauphing Man is just all the episodes from SAC involving that storyline edited together to make a feature.

Ah, it's a SAC movie in the GitS Universe.. The Design of the DVD release from UK just put me off, because it's not Designer as I would expect an anime dvd release would be Designed.

Does anyone know what a "The laughing man" dvd release for ghost in the shell: stand alone complex is about? Is it a special English dub?
