here I am, alive and kicking (well, sorta... ;-) ) - got some troubles lately, I'll answer to PMs and be present on the forum ASAP!!!
No problem. I had to look at someone's elses post in edit mode to see the code.
This is how to post images at OT for now. ![](insert image url here betweeen the pharenteses)
They are country wide, and I suppose those preferences can be traced to the earlier stages of sound film distribution.
I don't know where the different preferences come from, but it seems they're country wide.
In Israel, only children's films are dubbed, and subtitles are pretty much the norm. As far as consuming it, I agree that if you're not experienced, it won't be convenient, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a second nature, like driving.
Feallan: Here in France for example we have excellent dubbing actors which are regular actors originally. Some movies and shows are great to watch in French for a bunch of people here, it's a good thing. For US films and shows I can't stand subtitles personnally unless they are in English because they mean the exact same thing that you hear in the audio. Sometimes obviously we have abysmal dubs so we watch the original version instead.
In Poland voice-overs are still popular in TV for some reason. I guess our voice actors may be at fault, e.g. watching Avengers with voice-over is bearable, but the dubbed version they've shown once was ridiculed in the internet for days. ^^ I've never heard so many cringeworthy lines in one movie before.
I personally don't know a single person who would prefer to watch a dubbed movie. Theatres had this option for Hobbit movies, but apparently not many people were interested, every day they had like 10 showings with subs and two with a dub.
I would conclude: Either dubbing or remaking are mostly just for one thing: money.
To be fair: some german dubs really s**k But some voices are great, and if you see a movie from childhood on with a certain dub and voices, it is quite strange if you see it afterwards in original audio, or with a redub.
To be fair American movie producers tend to remake all good films not just the foreign ones. And mostly towards bad ends
It is just a question of money: you can reach more German Movie watcher money with dubs.
I could bring a likely question in return: I never understood why USA movie production tend to remake really good foreign movies... it is just expensive and most are really bad.
It is easier to consume a movie in your mother language. I do not know many people like watch movies just with subtitles, because it is harder to concentrate on the screen while reading along.
I never understood why Germans dub foreign movies. It's more expensive and most often sounds worse than the original. Why not simple subtitles?
I enjoyed The green Inferno more than I thought after hearing the bad reviews...
We watched "Kingdom of the Spiders" (with William Shattner), "Scream" (SD DVD screening of the unrated DC), "The Hallow" (it was in english with subtitles) and first, and probably last, time ever theatrical shown in German "The green Inferno"
Just was to a Horror Night in a cinema in Wolfsburg. Except for the thrid movie all were dubbed in German and all were digital projection.
Basically VPN server is a middleman between you and the site you connect to. The player gets the server's IP, sees that it's un the UK, thinks "OK" and starts sending video. Then the server forwards it to you, encrypted.
Virtual Private Network. Someone in another country has a VPN Server, and with a client you log via VPN using this server into his network and use the Internetgateway, as if you would be physically connected in the regarding Network.
Is there a simple way to get around these pesky videoplayers that prevent you from watching a video just because I'm not in the U.K.?
Wish I could see it on 15/70. Luckily if I have to go digital it's nice to see it on Imax Laser
Only drawback is that it's on a dome and is thus warped, but I take what I can get these days.
Seeing it at the Tech Museum in San Jose on film, in 2D! (Thank goodness they're not equipped for digital or 3D! I also saw the Dark Knight trilogy there earlier this year.)
The Force Awakens on real film http://www.leaderpost.com/entertainment/...story.html
Anybody in need of stuff from usenet can PM me and I might be able to help. I am testing a french service that has a retention rate of ~2600days that I already verified to be true and the speed is decent
Visited today the new OT forum; its design is not bad, but my nickname has been modified, from _,,,^..^,,,_ to _^..^_ - I want my commas back!
Also they are not using regular sale channels or marketing, to small down the additional costs for the end-buyer.
MAybe that way they could only give away as much invites to use, as big as the production volume is. The system is quite weird, yes, and sometimes it is annoying, if someone waits for an invite some month...
Oh, I see. Kinda weird system, you'd think they want to sell as much as possible, why limit their customers?
I just thought that maybe here is someone who might want to buy the phone, and still needs an invite.
OnePlus is the producer, and it is their second mobile Phone. Each one who bought one, gets sharable invites for others to purchase the phone.
The Invite is to order the OPT at their Shop. The OnePlus Two is a mobile phone. The producer uses an invite system.
Someone from Europe in need of an invite to but a OnePlus Two? Maybe I have a shareable Invite to Pass along.
You guys need to be posting in this thread at OT:http://originaltrilogy.com/announcement/Forum-software-bug-reports-and-feature-requests/id/45893
From Jay:It can take days for DNS updates to propagate completely. They just have to wait for their ISP to update their server (or switch to a public DNS).
Actually going into the settings and changing it to OT Old Skool helped a bit. Where can we find thread subscriptions?
We did have to ban a bunch of German IP's a single troll was using to cause trouble, but nobody reported access issues in the weeks since then.
We did have a open test period where everyone could access the test site. The server may still be propragating in some places. If there are still access issues in the next day, let me know or report it to Jay.
@DoomBot. Indeed... but Fanres is way cooler anyway and the layout is spot on
I'm not sure about the new layout either. We've been used to the old one for so long, guess we have no choice but to adapt.
EDIT: It sucks. I can't see anything with that new layout it's pretty awful...
It's working for me now and without any proxy. New flat design layout... interesting.
Strange. At home it works. Mobile it die not work, yet. Maybe it is an ISP think, where the (still) refer to.
OT is working when I use a US proxy... So apparently it's not working for anyone with European IP. I wonder what's up with that. Is that intentional, SilverWook?
it's up for me (has been for a few hours) and I'm still not sure if I like the new layout. edit: i don't like the new layout as it seems sloppy
