As far as I understand the whole thing:
They provide the constructual plans to build it, they provide some source code for the controlling and scanning software, but it is not compiled, so you would have to compile it yourself.

They seem to use a mac... mac users are weird...
...well, last thing is more meant as a joke, but it shows the point, I think it is not so bad, that they (at the moment, maybe that chances someday) just bring the sourcecode:
With the correct interpreter it is OS independend.
I do not know what code language they used, I did not searched that deep, but it also gives you another benefit:
the user can tweak the source to fit his/her purposes even better, compared to customizable, compiled software. The only problem: The user should know what he does...
