Well it does both in a way - the stuff that implodes from the rear side will fly out the front! Big Grin

I'm rocking a 2nd hand 720p Panasonic.
New bulb installed and I just use my A/V Receiver to downscale all my feeds.

Looks great Smile

Love the idea of a CRT setup for my LD’s.

I settled for my player to my Onkyo amp which does a lot of magic with the video processor in it then onto a native but capable 720p Panasonic projector. The results are fantastic with it.

My 960 just got the six blinking lights won’t turn on syndrome. Apparently it’s an IC chip that needs replacing in the board but despite seeming simple I’m in over my head when it comes to tv repair like that.
Any suggestions?

I had been thinking about trying plasma and there are some that appear occasionally locally but I’ve never actually owned one. I’d love a big one that can outdo my 960 but I don’t know what could overall.

Currently I have the xs955 4:3 brother to my 960 for LDs to fall back on but the hd board is shot so I can only use it for analog. On Craigslist someone has a fully working one and another seller has a xbr970 but I don’t need to and physically can’t have fifty crts around.

Sadly in that case you may have to dump the 960. I always have that fear of touching the wrong thing when you open up a CRT.

Did you even look into the CRT projector captainsolo?

Yes, you have to be very careful. I'd advise the captain to get a TV engineer to look at it.

The trouble is I don’t know if I can find one anywhere who even knows hdcrt let alone late Sony weirdness.

I’ve never used a crt projector and haven’t seen another pop up-but that’s probably a whole other arena I shouldn’t get into at least not yet.

What kind of screen would you guys suggest? I’d love a Pioneer or Panasonic plasma but am unsure if getting a non top of the line model would be decent if not better than my 960. Plus my budget is extremely tight and even oleds can’t fully outdo crt.

I’m open to any suggestions. IIRC Antcu mentioned going from hdcrt to plasma was actually an improvement.

TBH when it comes to CRT projectors it's pretty much the 'spare parts apocalypse'. The tubes do wear out and they're only going to get harder to replace as time goes by. If you are genuinely interested in front projection a JVC is as close to the CRT experience as you'll get.
