Fixing A GOOFY MOVIE (1995)
#21
@pipefan413, my brother is going to try his luck at fixing all the censorship in this one to the best of his abilities. More than happy to share his work with you once completed. We're looking at the blu-ray, a 1080i HDTV rip, 1080p web-rip, and the NTSC and PAL DVDs as potential sources to draw from.

Where did you find a 1080p web version and what is the framing for it? I only found SD... throw me a PM when you get a sec, ideally before you use the web rip (might be able to help with something). I'm wondering if the 1080p is only 1080p because whoever recorded it played an SD video on a 1080p device or something, in which case it's unlikely to be a good source to use.

Is the HDTV one the one with logo in lower left? I have been considering trying an overlay mask to ditch the logo but have been fiddling with so many separate things I haven't tried yet.

Had a nosey and the only web streaming version I could find that was ostensibly HD is a Brazilian one that claims to be a "web-DL", 3.8 GB. It's very, very obviously an upscale, and not a very good one either... it's a smudgey DNR nightmare. Bums.

As far as I can tell, it was only available on streaming services as either NTSC or PAL SD, until Disney+, which I'm 99.9% sure will just be the new Blu-ray master with the censorship. So unless something fancy can be done with AI upscaling specific frames or something that doesn't look dodgy, I'm probably sticking with the PAL DVD with the sync fixes I mentioned before.

I think perhaps if it had just been the dancing scene, the buttcrack, and the changing room bit, I'd be content with upscaling a handful of frames very carefully and inserting them into the Blu-ray master, but the dissolves in the intro (which is the scene I think is most negatively affected by the censorship) make it a lot more irritating to hide imo. I don't really have that sort of skillset at this point, but if you guys can manage it, I'll be delighted!

Yep. Took at look at the "WEB-DL" myself today. Yep. it's someone else's DVD upscale with a Portuguese audio track thrown in. So, not very useful unfortunately. Yep. HDTV has the Disney logo in the corner. The 1080i source isn't budging in my torrent list though. So, the best I have been able to get is the smaller 720p MySpleen encode from the same source. Either way, we'll give this little project a shot Wink
