UHD is at 24fps instead of 23.978fps, so when I've finished the track, you'll need to mux it into the UHD and make sure to set the UHD's video's "Default Duration/FPS" to 24000/1001p to make it play at 23.978fps, as this is the framerate the Criterion Mono is synced to. The downside, of course, is that you won't be able to have the surround tracks in the same mkv and still sync with the video, but... who cares about the revisionist surround tracks, right?
Will this affect the Dolby Vision layer? Is there any reason not to speed up the audio instead of slow the video?
No, and technically this is what you SHOULD do. The correct framerate for the film is 24fps. Speeding up the audio by 100.1% (23.976/24) is not a perceptible change. I’ve done this for the mono track myself. If anyone else wants to do so…
1. Change audio rate to 100.1% speed.
2. Add 2.05858 seconds to the start.*
3. Add some silence to the end (maybe 20 seconds).
4. Trim to the EXACT length of the new SF track.
*this is based on the Criterion mono linked to in the description of this YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8ct_gQO5cE
Works perfectly.
And Croweyes1121's version has just become the best version to use with the SF UHD, so consider my 23.976 Shout! sync replaced.
