IIRC the AC-3 had its high frequencies cut off at a much lower point than the PCM. I think I still prefer the AC-3 though. Wondering if anyone more knowledgable could explain why the apparent filtering didn't have too big of an effect.
I took some spectrograms. The AC-3 5.1 track has a cutoff at ~14 kHz (due to AC-3 compression?), whereas the PCM 2.0 is full-range.
PCM 2.0:
AC-3 5.1, center channel:
AC-3 5.1, L/R:
Can you please send me both the LPCM 2.0 and the AC-3 5.1 synced to the 4K remaster/UHD?
How does the 1998 DVD compare with the LaserDisc? And how do later remixes (DTS-HD MA 6.1+Dolby TrueHD 5.1 from the 2008 Blu-ray, Atmos from the UHD, and Spatial Audio from the Netflix stream) compare?
The Netflix stream is the 4K remaster but with the 100th Anniversary Paramount logo from the 3D version plastered in.
I hope someone can rip the EAC-3 2.0 stream of the Spatial Audio headphone mix from the Netflix stream, ‘cause I sure as hell can’t do it.
