Universal Monsters: Undo BD 'fixes'
#91
Or I can try Lil Brutto again. He was the one who captured the Frankenstein LD audio.

Hello. Sorry I haven’t posted in here recently. I don’t actually have anything at the moment but I have some quick requests. Does anyone have any of the following VHS tapes and would be able to capture the opening previews to them???

Psycho The Beginning (Screener cassette)
The Last Hit (Screener cassette)
Mr.Write (Screener cassette)
Greedy (Screener cassette)
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1999 VHS)
Revenge of the Creature (2000 VHS)
The Creature Walks Among Us (2000 VHS)

My capture devices don’t capture HD anyways so I wouldn’t be of much help here anyways.

I guess I can post about the UHDs here. They seemed to have followed the BDs as a base and so the iffy Bride tree branch is there along with the Frankenstein jump shown in the OP. I had always assumed they found more frames there. The audio also seems to be the same BD mono recycled.
All of the ones so far I've gone through are massive visual improvements and new work has been done to improve the previous master's efforts. The BDs really show their age and inherent issues more now. Due to the increased resolution any damage left or unable to be addressed is more prevalent on the UHDs.

However on some films the HDR really has some iffyness that will bug some like me. Dracula seems to fare the worst in this as the brightest portions such as light sources, paper, white shirts and clothes, lanterns, the opera usher's flashlight and the silver dishes on the table where Renfield is eating have the pop out effect. This is thankfully much lesser in the others but will op up occasionally though never as much as it does in Dracula. Also the darker areas of the frame will go ultra dark-far more than any previous video release so it will seem weird at first such as in the opening bar scenes of The Invisible Man. Speaking of which the wires are once again erased.

These wreak havoc on an OLED due to chroma overshoot. Dracula is my torture test disc for this now...
