Ghost in the Shell

I was just about to say, this and Akira are the only ones that ever made me say "I want that film on Blu Ray" (or DVD back then).

MrBrown, keep us posted on the theatrical version on Blu Ray. You must have some amount of films at home by now!

25th anniversary brought along the original version of this film on Blu-Ray so I'm happy to say that the Ghost is back in its original shape. I'll be ordering a copy on Amazon soon enough too

Manga are re-releasing it in the UK too (next week in fact), to coincide with the live-action 'reboot' thing they've made. Many fingers are crossed they've fixed the audio/subs flaws in the first release. CSchmidlapp has a thread regarding an ultimate edition he was working on:

If the live action is gonna turn out to be bad at least we can thank it for making distributors release the original version!

There is an HDTV release floating around. Some people claim it has too much edge enhancement, but to my eye it contain additional detail over the Blu-rays which are overscrubbed to remove grain.

It's my preferred viewing version.

I still have the Windows Media 9 HD version from way back. I think it was part of a DVD release. Though I never watched that version.

I didn't know such things existed at the time of DVDs

Terminator 2: Extreme Edition had the Theatrical Cut in WMV HD on the second disc, it used DRM to restrict playback to internet-connected PCs in North America only. It uses the same master that is still doing the rounds now...

afaik it is almost impossible to play them now, because it used some kind of DRM that worked with the old Windows Media Player.
I really would love if they would have been decoded for normal use. I have the German DVD of Total Recall with the WMV HD Version, the German Hero Edition (the Jet Li Movie) with the theatrical Cut as WMV HD and the US T2 extreme Edition mentioned above.
