So, assuming you are right, and that EE used an early print, we have the older (most... "original"?) color grading... that could explain the blue window in the second scene in Andrew's office - and probably few more changes... speculations, of course!

No, I don't think it affects the grading. When I say it was an earlier IP, I only mean that it was first struck when the billing order was Weaver, Dance, Dutton. It would have been used for something - test screenings, or whatever. Later they chopped it up, and put it back together with the theatrical scenes (new bits in, old bits out, etc) so that it was identical to any other theatrical IP, except that it might have more splices in it. I think it's more likely than not that theatrical prints were struck from this, and some people would have seen the incorrect billing order. But everything else would have been the same - including the soundtrack.
Alien and Aliens were newly remastered in 4K for bluray, Alien 3 and Resurrection used existing transfers of the movie. And unlike Aliens they didn't have the director looking over their shoulder asking for certain things to be done like "pump up the blue".

Film cells. A couple are clearly from an adapted-scope source, most likely a trailer, but could the anamorphic ones be from an actual print? The only thing which gives me pause is that I swear the same shot turns up on two cells, one flat and one anamorphic...

You can tell since it has the crane shot not in the TC but later found in the AC. When I saw the film I was like where are all those shots.
Of course when I saw this trailer I was curious as to what happened to the Earth setting the teaser promised.

Interesting, the soundtracks for both the flat and anamorphic strips show it's stereo and not dual-mono. This has to be one of relatively few optical stereo trailers; correct me if I'm wrong, but even after the advent of digital sound, didn't trailers still usually go out with mono on the optical track?

Not sure about every trailer but I have seen a bunch in stereo for sure. I fact I have the trailer for Sleepy Hollow (1999) sitting in front of me and it's DS/DD/DTS/SDDS. I have another late 90's trailer coming soon so I'll check that one for you too Servo.

I guess it was the 90s when it became common. I know that mono trailers were still around, I found the rare THX parody teaser for Wayne's World 2 but it was a mono version. There was a Dolby version that was only sent to THX-certified theaters, then for some reason Paramount chose to make a general-release green-band mono version. To be fair, that's probably how I saw it back in '93...
