I may have find an outfit that can supply PCM mods in a DIY kit within Europe. This opens up the possibilty of getting a lesser-spec model and adding the SP/DIF output myself.

Don't know how much the mod cost, but, even if CLD-D925 is not on par with the best NTSC players, it's still one of the best ones, along with the CLD-2950; buying a lower quality one is not a good idea IMHO.

Another option is to go with best models of another brand, like Sony and Philips; they are not well reviewed as the Pioneer, but they could be a good alternative in the PAL lands, and could be found for a lower price probably.

Also, another good alternative (maybe more dear, but still viable) is to find out a DVD/LD combo, like DVL-909 or DVL-919.

And, at the end, you will end up buying more than one player, you know that... Wink
