I always loved the movie Warriors of Virtue as a kid, but it seems that the only DVD release was Pan and Scan, as were the VHS copies. The LaserDisc however is letterbox, and I'd love an opportunity to see this in widescreen.
I'm happy to send funds to someone to purchase the disc if they have means of capturing it.

There actually appear to be two French DVDs titled "Magic Warriors" - not sure if they offer different encodes or not. If so, perhaps they could be overlayed for a fair-quality 720p upscale.
The laserdisc would still be needed to replace the film title at the beginning.
The US DVD offers 5.1 DD - most likely the same or better than the 5.1 on the laserdisc, but worth comparing just in case.

I have a French(?) and a Spanish(?) PAL DVD. Both are widescreen. One is anamorphic but seems like it's a letterboxed master "blown up" as it appears softer than the other letterboxed disc. One disc also has behind the scenes footage.
The Laserdisc is unfortunately a rotter, both copies I have are speckle city. I did do a capture several years back from my old gas tube player, (which can read through all but severe rot) but the PAL DVD's might be better to work from for most of the film. A capture of the PCM was on my to do list. I also have the old MGM pan and scan DVD with the 5.1
I would be happy to loan all of this out if someone wants to make a project of it.

If you can upload the 3 DVDs (or just the main features. Usually MakeMKV is the easiest all in one option.) I'd love to take a crack at this.
The laserdisc video is only necessary if the film title can't be replaced with the Pan and Scan.
Just PM me file links. I'm happy to include the PCM track if someone captures it, but otherwise I'm not set up to do that.
My plan is to start with the Anamorphic DVD, crop it,
and resize it to 768x whatever the Letterbox dvd height is without black bars. That should provide a better image as a starting point.
Once I've tested how well the result upscales, I'll decide between an SD or an HD release. With the available sources, I'm thinking a BD-9 at anamorphic 480p with 5.1 and 2.0 English (PCM if available, otherwise ac3), French 2.0, and Spanish 2.0.

My internet is pretty spotty these days. And my upload speed is terrible. As I presume we're both in the U.S., I could mail everything to you?
I'll try to post some screencaps over the weekend, time permitting.

The French letterbox DVD has the English titles and end credits. The end credits on the MGM pan and scan are squeezed, so you might get more detail out of them.
The Spanish DVD looks better than I remember. It might be true 16:9 after all. Definitely a different print or transfer, it seems brighter and the colors colder, can't really put my finger on it.
Even the pan and scan DVD looks slightly different from the other two.
The LD has very noisy video, but might be useful for a color reference. (And the PCM track of course.) It's the only one to have the trailer in 1.85, although you might be able to recreate it using footage from the PAL DVD's.
The film does have a DTS credit, so you might want to ask the usual suspects if they can find the theatrical DTS CD's.

Sounds like pretty good sources to me
I'll decide whether to go 720p once I've run a few tests - good to know the French disc has English titles.
Are they all on DVD-5s?

I think the DVD is actually Open Matte, not Pan And Scan!!

Hey guys, I found this thread and forum while desperately searching for the original aspect ratio version of this movie.
I've scoured the internet, and what I've seen are: cheap Chinese bootlegs 4:3, Original MGM pressings 4:3, VHS 4:3, and.... this forum leading me to discover the only WS sources left seem to be on LD. I'll never own a LD player, most likely. Is there any other way you could think that I might acquire it? It doesn't have to be a physical copy.
Thanks in advance for any response or suggestion. (And wow, this forum is just packed with interesting threads! You guys/gals are some serious AV nerds! Love it)
