I remember a bonus on the DVD of "Spider-Man 2", maybe it was the audio commentary on the elevator scene, where it's mentionned that they had to modify Spidey's costume to suit the 2.35 AR in order to keep the spider logo on his chest appearent in the frame, so that's an assesment that kind of proves what the intended AR was even before shooting.
