Well, the new 4K scan comparison came in on Caps-A-Holic. I don't know how I feel about this new version since it seemed to be a little more zoomed in than the Shout! release as well as losing the cold-blue color grade (although idk how accurate that even was). I saw this release in a theater as well and noticed that they seemed to have botched the surround audio quite a bit, with the ambient audio noticeably ducking rather annoyingly.

Needs someone with auto-overlay expertise to combine the Studio Canal with the Scream Factory to fix the aspect ratio and get the ultimate version (someone like the open matte hydrid god Random.next or SpoRv would be able to do this but whether they would be interested is another matter). The credits appear off-centre on the SC (which has the same framing as the old MGM bluray) as the left side is missing a fair bit of info compared to the SF where as the right is the same (also missing a little bit top / bottom to compensate for the difference). The Fog could also do with the same procedure which is missing info on all four sides compared to the SF. Both of course are better in all other aspects including overall picture quality / resolution with maybe just a few color-tweaks to improve. Thankfully from reports the EFNY 2.0 on the Remastered UHD / Bluray appears to be the original rather than a mix down of the atrocious 5.1.

Do we know for a fact that the colder SF colour timing is correct?

John Carpenter signed off the original Scream, as far as I am aware (obviously, Evit's is a tweaked version of that) which could just mean he had a quick glance and took his pay cheque.

Dean Cundey approved the Studio Canal but is notorious for changing his ideas on color timing on a per transfer basis (The Thing Scream vs Arrow and Halloween come to mind).

I'm sure someone more in the know (SpoRv or Evit most probably) can pipe in here and confirm which is closer to a theatrical print. I'm sure one of them will see a new project based around the 4k.

Until then, take your pick.

IIRC, there was a Spanish BD with more image than Shout... am I wrong?

Not sure about the Spanish Bd (is there any screenshot's available for comparie), more concerned with the off center look of the Studio Canal (rather than which has the most image), the Scream did this better although still very slightly off by around 18 pixels (as confirmed by someone on the forum with blu in the title) which I can happlly live with. Would be a perfect candidate for auto-overlay to fix (along with The Fog which is zoomed on all four sides compared to the Scream), just wish I was more clued up with how to use it.

I'm not entirely sure. I checked Blu-Ray forums and it's a sh!tstorm as always with people belting at each other about what it the proper version of the movie.

I guess the best thing to do could be:
- use the Spanish "Divisa home video" BD as bigger frame
- overlay the UHD-BD smaller frame, chroma only, to get better details
- eventually regrade the result, taking one version as color reference (which one, frankly, dunno!)

Now you mention the name Divisa, I vaguely remember the frame of that bluray been discussed. Question is does anyone have it to work with otherwise the Scream could be used as an alternative.
Color timing wise I quite like the look of the Studio Canal which appears to be the best of all worlds although some claim the Scream is closer to theatrical outside of the blown out contrast bits.

Those pics flexicon posted on on the bd forum are mine from the ot. He asked permission to post them years ago. The 35mm pic is from a lpp reprint sold in Germany but with English dialogue.

The lpp tended to a slightly blue look but there were no examples before the island.
