Marvel's The Avengers - reframed 2.35:1 AR
#1
Hi there. A few words about my project.

So, Avengers always looked to me like an open matte version which should be framed correctly for theatrical release and somebody have forgotten to do it. In fact, Whedon really has no distinct visual style and because of that, this movie always looked like TV production. Also, until release of Ant-Man it was the only MCU movie with TV aspect ratio of 1.78:1. So I've decided to do something about it and try to reframe it shot-by-shot for more theatrical look so to speak.

It was done in Sony Vegas, based on standard Blu-ray release of the film. Contains original audio track, and two polish voice-over audio tracks & subtitles.

Of course this version loses significant part of the picture, but after I've watched in this new form, there's a little chance i'd get back to its original 1.78:1 framing.

Some screenshots will be added later today.

FYI: there is an open matte version out there (almost surely a BD, but also WEB).

So, I'd avoid to crop a 2.35:1 version, where there is a proper 1.78:1 one. But nice try, though! Wink

Actually, it was the other way around - cropping 1.78:1 to get 2.35:1.

Agreed. This movie looks too much like a more than well funded TV movie, and the widescreen aspect ratio will make it more cinematic.

Justice League has similar problem, especially when compared to Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman, I am not sure though I'd be willing to repeat this "Avengers procedure", re-framing whole movie shot-by-shot really makes me sick of that movie...

...on the other hand... this idea is still somewhere in the back of my head, so who knows?

Ooops, misunderstood... Smile

So, instead of cropping out the same amount of image on top and bottom, you carefully chosen whenever cut more on top or on bottom, right?

I can undestand the painful task - I did something similar with HP7... and it took A LOT of time and efforts!

Yeah, but... sometimes during the time of particular shot, the important part of the picture moved up or down, so there was a necessity to simulate "camera movement" in the shot, to keep it in frame.

The same for HP7... a pain in the... neck! Big Grin

I personally have an infamous preference for shots that are wide open vertically, so I really kind of welcome that some people still shoot/edit with a more opened up frame. Though I'm not too fond of either Avengers nor Justice League, but for different reasons.

With that said, can never hurt to change up the perspective a bit and have an alternate variant! I'm planning something related (but much weirder) for Infinity War, haha.
