Not sure this was completed. In the meantime, I have the two sided Pal DVD which was a port of the Pal Laserdisc.
The HD version is just horrible to look at.

I still have a DVD as well, but I'm desperately intolerant of PAL speedup so I really want to replace it with something.

Hi all.
Very much alive, I've just not uploaded Face / Off due to the potential of getting a Cinema DTS disc.

Pipefan, it's so easy to take a Pal DVD, remux the video to 23.976 and restore the audio to the lenght

Marvellous! Do throw me a PM if you'd be so kind re. Broken Arrow...

I don't want to derail but... how? I dunno how I'd do that without deinterlacing it or otherwise making a hash of it somehow. It's something that I've been wanting to do with a lot of DVDs, honestly. Maybe PM me if that's OK, so as to not wreck the thread? EDIT: Wait, are you doing this in eac3to? Coincidentally just seen a guide written about changing 24 to 24000/1001 fps using eac3to and since that works for AVC, I'm wondering if it also works on interlaced MPEG-2 (though it obviously won't change the number of lines or whatever, which isn't really a concern for playing back an MKV anyway presumably).

Pretty simple, you put the main title in mkvtoolnix, click ont the video label, and change
- Default duration to 24/1001
- Fix bitstream info
Presto your video file is now muxed at 23.976.
For the audio, just open it in audacity, and stretch it back to -4.096, export in the format of your choice, remux and that's it.

Cool, I assume that's precisely what eac3to does as well although there's no explicit mention of fixing the timestamp info in its log (it would surprise me if it didn't fix that automatically though, it's a fairly robust application in my experience).
The audio bit is fine, I just didn't realise until yesterday that simply changing the frame rate for the video was sufficient to have it actually work, I assumed it'd need to be re-encoded! Incidentally, eac3to can use the same instruction to adjust the audio as well, though I haven't done any kind of detailed comparison to see which method is more transparent, if indeed there is any discernable difference. Thanks.
