Which USB Soundcard with Toslink In?
#1
Question
I have a new Macbook Pro and unfortunately it no longer comes with an Digital-In. So I need a USB Soundcard that gives me this option, especially for Bit-Perfect Captures.

Any recommendations? Anything I should look for that could be a problem?

Looking forward to your feedback

The ESI U24 XL is a nice small bus-powered that will do bit perfect capture.

I'm looking for one that can do bit perfect cap from LD as well as being able to record 4 simultaneous line inputs so have my eye on the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 MK2. It seems to use RCA inputs for the S/PDIF rather than TOSLINK, though I don't know if that's a problem.

Anybody happen to be able to offer an opinion on that or suggest a better alternative at similar cost or less?

EDIT: For now, I've grabbed a sound card which can record digital input over TOSLINK at 44.1 kHz (because I needed a sound card anyway and this potentially solves several problems in one go). However, I will quite likely want a 4-in USB interface at some point later on, so the question stands nonetheless. Ones I've been considering include the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 mk2 mentioned above and the Behringer UMC404HD. I basically want something that can record 4 analogue outputs from either the Dolby SDU4 (which I've got balanced XLR-TRS cables for) or a Yamaha consumer-grade Dolby Pro Logic decoder (which has RCA output, so would need adaptors for most pro interfaces). Chances are, the Dolby is going to prove most important in the long term, and I can record the Yamaha through this sound card anyway so I haven't yet bothered buying cables to convert RCA to 1.4". Similarly, the digital input may be irrelevant if I can record that through the sound card anyway.
