On another note, is the R1 DVD supposed to come with a booklet or any kind of insert? Mine only contains discs. I bought a used copy.

Turner Preview it is then! Thanks for the info. Need to explore more Peckinpah as I'm only really familiar with Straw Dogs. I've definitely seen The Wild Bunch but back when I was a kid and have vague memories of it.

Anyone else see how terrible the "Final Preview Cut" looks in Criterion's BD? Totally unbelievable, a faded print badly color corrected. We're way beyond a raw grindhouse transfer, we're just looking at something that should never have passed QC.

Of course, the (revised) Seydor cut and the theatrical cut get the full restoration...

staggering amount of not giving minimal effort to it. cannot fathom how any colorist submitted that as final work and how anyone approved it as such.
what's worse, there's some on blu-ray.com forum flat out defending such release.

Lincoln Center in 2016 showed a perfectly fine unfaded print of the First Preview Cut. I've read that at least an interpositive exists of that First Preview Cut. Why they had to resort to this AND not have it be presentable is baffling?

I wish that they hadn't done so much bizarre desaturation during the fade correct; if they had left it more overtly faded, someone around these parts would have had a better chance of color recovery.

This is a wishlist title to get a proper restoration of the first preview cut. I saw the perfectly timed British Film Institute print of the 1988 1st Preview in excellent condition at the Prince Charles last summer for the 50th anniversary. Wish that could have just been put onto the disc. The sound was thunderous - and I wish the care and attention had been put into that edition rather than the revised 2005 cut which continues to be so problematic and revisionist.

I'd be a very happy camper if someone attempted this one day, hopefully the materials are enough there between the 50th anniversary cut and an upscale of the disc 2 1988 version.

As somebody not very familiar with this movie: isn't the 50th Anniversary Cut essentially the best one? That's the impression I've gotten, that it's the closest to the intended version taking into account all the notes and so on.

I think the real star of the box is that we finally have the original theatrical cut.
It's been missing on home-video for so long, I was planning on buying a VHS to preserve it.
No need to, finally! (Plus the VHS was Pan & Scan).
