On myspleen there is a HDTV 720p of a very decent quality, perhaps there is an uncensored version, it will probably not be difficult to get it

I wonder if the BD - apart the forementioned censored bits - has a good video quality; if so, there are IMHO three solutions (from best but hard to work with):

1. replace only the censored part of the image with upscaled DVD by hand
   
2. replace only the censored part of the image with upscaled DVD "automagically"
   
3. replace the whole censored shots with upscaled DVD
   

If you provide a single censored shot from BD and DVD (both untoched), I'll test a DVD clean&upscale, and if the result is near to BD (no promises, though!), could be used as solution #3.

Yeah those are basically what I either decided I wasn't going to be able to do, or tried and didn't like the results.

#1 would be extremely involved and I've never done before so I'd probably make a tit of it
#2 much the same as #1 and may look worse due to automation
#3 I tried but the cropping is different, the colour is different, and there's a crapload of artefacting in the SD image so it just doesn't look close enough to the BD to blend properly (but I think this is the most viable option at least for that initial dream sequence bit)

Thinking about it actually, the dream sequence bit being a dream sequence might work for this... because although it's hardest one to de-censor, it's also differentiated from the other footage in the film *because it's a dream sequence*. If I just upscaled the entire dream then cut to the Blu-ray after that, then it would still be obviously different, but at least there'd be some sense of it being different visually because it's a dream (and it is indeed visually different in other ways from the other shots in the film).

For the other bits, they mostly bother me less anyway but they would probably be much less obvious if the censored bits of image were recomposited back in, like the rogue hand and the 2-line bumcrack and the bare cheeks in the dressing room. So either just don't bother with those and accept that they're a bit different, or do the #1/#2 method for those ones, and probably use the entire sequence on the DVD for the dream sequence at the start maybe?

Anyway I'm working just now but I'll look into getting files across as soon as I can. I'll be fiddling with it more myself as well.

... Yeah, same. I think the Blu-ray actually looks decent compared to a lot of other Disney ones for the most part (there is still SOME grain visible), but it definitely looks very cleaned up and digital. Which is another part of the reason I just decided to upscale the DVD and call it a day. I also need to move on to other LD captures and preservations because I have a lot to get through...

The HDTV one *is* uncensored, I believe, but that's because it's just an airing of the DVD I've got and have upscaled myself. Apparently, the DVD looks better than the HDTV version, although the person I saw saying that was attempting their own upscale with what I would call Extremely Questionable Results at best (I actually saw @spoRv in that thread, incidentally!) so maybe I should see for myself before coming to that conclusion.

Yep! It is *not* censored. I'm guessing the WDP title is probably out of sync as well but I haven't checked that yet (I actually forgot all about looking at the US DVD until now tbh, but somebody else sent screenshots showing the lack of censorship). I'm going to have a look in the morning and update this post. EDIT: Hey, the text is actually timed (at least roughly) correctly on the US DVD and has the fade-out intact. The UK DVD neither has the text timed correctly nor fading out as it should, but the overall benefit of the image being correctly framed as widescreen still gives it the edge over the US DVD imo*. The US DVD is cropped from widescreen to 4:3 so I don't know what use that really is even though sync is more correct at the opening titles. The PAL DVD can be slowed to the right speed without doing anything particularly destructive, though the editing of the frames around the title card does of course necessitate either a re-encode or just viewing the film directly out of a frame server running the script to correct it.

* Howeeeeeveeer... the US DVD is at least somewhat open matte compared to the UK DVD and US Blu-ray. There's noticeably more image on top and bottom despite there being much less on the sides, so it isn't just a straight crop as I initially expected:

For this shot, the 4:3 framing is possibly better composed imo, but I would need to watch the whole film to really decide if it was better or worse overall. Looks like I've got a task ahead of me then...

Aye, I know. It's just interesting to see some shots appear better composed at 4:3 even though intention was ostensibly 1.85:1! That, and I guess I'm a cynic because I still expected it'd probably be cropped from the widescreen framing on the 4:3 disc because my faith in Disney is subzero at this point...

Time to make an UAR version!

The censorship is hilarious (never noticed those naughty french animators snuck them in there), but removing the buttcrack is outright blasphemy. Imagine the outcry if Disney+ did that to Homer's derrière in legacy Simpsons episodes. They already "banned the butt crack" of Daryl Hannah in Splash.

Shame the film was never released on a physical disc medium for the german market (like so many great animated movies and shows). It was recently put on Amazon Prime, but who wants to go through the headache to save the film off the plaftorm. Definitely still have the Soundtrack on CD that includes the German songs.
