[Request] Wallace & Gromit Original Trilogy US LD audio synced to the Blu-ray
#1
https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/10996/061...lose-Shave
This US LaserDisc has the original audio for the original trilogy in the highest quality.

The most noticeable alterations are that A Grand Day Out was originally mono but was remixed to 5.1 for the Blu-ray and some of the music cues in The Wrong Trousers were altered.
The Blu-ray (except for the Australian release) is in 24fps rather than 23.976fps so the audio would have to be slightly sped up from 23.976fps to 24fps.
The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave were Dolby Stereo and the LDs are Dolby Stereo too, apparently, despite no mention of them.

These LaserDiscs are apparently common and cheap but I haven't found a rip of it yet.
I am requesting this for a friend of mine.

Thanks in advance.

P.S: Admins, please transfer this thread to the Audio Projects > Released subforum. I made a mistake.
And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

These would be neat to hear; they didn't do a good job with any of the 5.1 remixes. The first three minutes of "The Wrong Trousers" show a lot of effort as if it was being mixed from the ground-up, but the rest of the short's mix is unfinished in comparison. And they didn't even try with "A Close Shave", which is mixed like a Saturday morning cartoon.

I can't help with LaserDisc audio, but I do have the original audio mixes taken from the 1999 CBS/FOX DVDs synced to the Blu-rays of the first two shorts at 25fps. Never got around to doing anything with A Close Shave yet because the BD version of that is cropped.

The Aussie Blu-rays are 25fps but the UK and US Blu-rays are at their original theatrical 24fps since the short films had limited theatrical releases mostly in film festivals.

Also, I am not sure if A Close Shave was originally projected at 1.33:1 or 1.66:1.
Some sources claim that its limited theatrical release was projected in widescreen and the TV broadcasts/home video releases were open matte.
That said, I usually prefer open matte over the theatrical aspect ratio.

Were the 1999 CBS/FOX DVDs in Dolby Digital or were they uncompressed LPCM like the LaserDiscs?

Dolby Digital. So the LD audio is obviously desirable for being uncompressed. But still, we have the original sound mixes in reasonable quality already if nobody wants to capture the LD.

The frame rate issue is complicated though, because there's a possibility (or even a likelihood) that the shorts were produced for 25fps. The 23.976/24fps releases have the wrong audio pitch because they were slowed down from the PAL source.

I have my doubts that A Close Shave was intended to be matted, because the Blu-ray is cropped inconsistently, with the majority of framing being very tight compared to the other two shorts.

The shorts were most likely originally made for 24fps since the films were made to be projected in film festivals.
I listened to the rare score promo CD on YouTube and the audio pitch matches what was on the 24fps Blu-ray.

Also, I want the synced 24fps audio for the first three shorts from the CBS/FOX DVDs, even A Close Shave since even if I usually prefer open matte, I prefer how the HD OAR version looks over the SD Open Matte version.

These, as well as the 1999 CBS/FOX version of A Close Shave, match the 25fps audio pitch. The 23.976fps and 24fps versions have the wrong pitch, with the exception of the 1999 DVD of A Close Shave I just mentioned.

A Grand Day Out was initially shown at a film festival. However I'm pretty sure Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave were made for TV and premiered on UK television which would have been PAL. But of course they were still both shot on film! So I wonder what they would have done with the audio when projected.

I happened to read this thread this morning before I went out, and when I randomly walked into a charity/goodwill store they had BBC DVD (PAL) for peanuts, so naturally I bought it! I believe The Wrong Trousers has the altered music cues, but if the other tracks are of use to anyone, I'm happy to share it.
