immersive video
#1
There is immersive audio: Auro 3D, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X.

But what technology could be defined "immersive video" (related to movies)?

I thing (guess?) the best option nowaday is ScreenX (as well as Barco Escape, but it's dead, sadly); a three-screen presentation - central, left and right walls (there is also an option of a cealing screen).

Unfortunately I had not the chance to see a movie in ScreenX, but watching their trailer, it seems an interesting way to put the viewer in the center (literally) of action!

Technically, it could be improved - the seams are still too visible, sometimes badly seamed, the side screens often does not have matching color/brightness of the main one, or they just use a mirror or distorted copy of the main screen.

But, apart these problems, the idea works IMHO.

What do you think?

Surely 3D is considered immersive, especially the original 15-perf IMAX documentary stuff as the screen fills your entire field of vision. I know no-one really cares about 3D anymore except for James Cameron but when done right it is quite something, although it does needs the pop-outs (ie negative parallax). The depth only stuff isn't so impressive.

If you're listing the modern 3-screen stuff you need to include the original Cinerama releases, maybe also curved screen processes like Super Technirama

edit: I see you're excluding documentaries so that rules out most 15-perf IMAX stuff

Thought about including 3D as immersive, but it (still) need glasses, and some feel watching a 3D movie uncomfortable; it should not be the case with ScreenX (Barco Escape).

I decided to leave out Cinerama as it is technically not 3-screen, but only a single curved one - and, even if it was quite immersive at the time, only few "real" movies were released, and it's a dead technology since a lot of time.

Wouldn't be nice to create a 3-screen homemade video? Happy
