Yes there is already a hybrid but I don't know its origins and when I went to watch it I noticed a bright flash between some scenes. Inspecting the video I found a lot of white frames inserted between switching aspect ratios scenes. So I decided to simply use this version to get the IMAX scenes and replace them in the BluRay.

Use the 2160p scenes from the UHD for the main part of the movie; use the blu-ray extra scenes from the trilogy bonus disc for the IMAX shots, except upscale them to 2160p (using Topaz VEAI), so the entire movie is in 4k.
What do you think?

Sounds good but I'll leave that to more experienced editors.

Are you meaning to say you're doing lossless M2ts 'cell' editing, and the only encode will be the final output, if that? You're literally splicing patches together w/out re-encoding? I'll have to doublecheck my IMAX hybrid copy because I do not recall those white frame insertions.. but I will slow-scroll and look for them now

I'm editing them both in DaVinci.

Check 0:30:16 (1 frame) and 0:47:29 (lots of frames).

Ok I see them, I have the same one, that's too bad. Kinda strange?

I will be working on this idea soon;
"Use the 2160p scenes from the UHD for the main part of the movie; use the blu-ray extra scenes from the trilogy bonus disc for the IMAX shots, except upscale them to 2160p (using Topaz VEAI), so the entire movie is in 4k."

I'm 2-3 fanedit movies behind already.

Hello, new here. Found out about this split from fanres on VFA. I am wondering what the method of distribution is for this. Do we obtain it via PM? Or is it uploaded on the public trackers?

PS: I don’t have spleen or CRT.

You'd have to do SDR>HDR grading on the IMAX footage or HDR>SDR tonemapping on the rest of the film. Either way doing it in way that looks good and consistent throughout would take a good bit of effort.

I will be leaving the main 2160p footage as-is in HDR, and upgrading the IMAX footage to HDR, I may even have Tekno3D do that HDR pass for me after its upscaled to 4k.
Every intermediate step (and sources) will be lossless until the final output

Would love to see this!
