Edge Enhancement Removal.
#1
Hi All.

Im looking a techniques to help soften / remove Edge Enhancement.
I come from a 'cutter' background so alot of these tools (AVIsynth) im still coming to grips with!

I came across this on my travels:

Blinddehalo3: http://avisynth.nl/index.php/BlindDeHalo3

Here is a thread on the development and usage: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=74003

Does anybody have any experience with this or Edge Enhancement in general?

Cheers.

Blinddehalo works well, but if the settings are too high it can create a "haze" so be sure to tune the settings to your requirements. Generally you will have a different values for X and Y (typically a bit higher on Y than on X).

Ive Had a go with default settings on. Looked pretty good, I know what you mean by haze.
What would your recommended settings be? I know it depends on the source but where do you start from.
Im still new to more detailed aspects of AVIsynth and its plug ins.

While I don't have direct experience removing EE, I know that some have used Dehalo_Alpha in concert with EdgeCleaner, so you might give those a look.

It depends on the source. Some examples of what I've used (generally on SD sources):

BlindDeHalo3(rx=1,ry=2,strength=100,sharpness=0.5,tweaker=0)
BlindDeHalo3(rx=2,ry=2,strength=80,sharpness=0.5,tweaker=0)
BlindDeHalo3(3,1,120,sharpness=0.5,tweaker=0)
etc

etc

Cheers, will give these a go.
Im working on some HD material as well so will report back.

Does anyone have a copy of BindDeHalo? Looks like its no longer hosted and I wanted to compare it to Dehalo_alpha which is what I have been using
