Phantom Menace Best Edit?
#1
I originally tried my hand at editing the Phantom Menace after it came out on DVD decades ago after seeing some other versions online and thinking I could try and fix some stuff that bothered me personally different than what others had done.  Some edits took out all of Jar-Jar, some removed some other things that I liked, and some didn't remove enough for my liking.

I think I got too ambitious for my computer, and it took too long (or never finished) rendering my changes into a complete version, and I gave up.  I moved on to other things, like family and renovating my house and work and never got back to try editing it again once I upgraded my computer and software to see if I could do what I wanted with it.  However, in the meantime, I just found this site and was interested in edits of other Star Wars films and wanted to know if there was some consensus opinion on who might have made a definitive version of not only the Phantom Menace, but Episodes II and III, and maybe even the original trilogy.  I don't know if anyone has messed with the most recent trilogy, but I don't really like those films at all, so I feel Star Wars starts and ends with the first 6 films.  Any thoughts?

Thanks.

This is not exactly the right place for fanedits, you know. Here, you're more likely to find the preservation of the original 1999 release with puppet Yoda and actual theatrical sound mix rather than Joe Average's take on it.

I think every generation hates the Star Wars films made for the next!
I remember seeing The Phantom Menace in 1999 at 19 years old, and enjoying it for what it was.
I personally felt the lightsabre duel chorography were the highlight and a notable improvement, with the 'Duel of the fates' sequence with Darth Maul being generally exciting.
After spending the 80's as a kid playing and creating my own stories in the universe, there was no way the story could live up.
But I do remember thinking O.K, this was not made for me, but for the kids now like me back then.
As part of the OG Star Wars generation, we had already had the 'Special Edition' releases prior to this and to be honest I found them far more jarring.

I find The original 'Phantom Edit' my preferred version of the film.
It was a pivotal moment due to it being perhaps the most well known Fan Edit of all time.
I've also only watched the Despecialized Editions and later the 4K77 versions since released of the original trilogy, which are also fan made.

I'd really like a fan to attempt the 'Darth Jar Jar' theory and somehow integrate that into the prequel trilogy.
It's an amazing idea, and the YouTube video really convinced me it was probably the original idea before monumental backlash.

Everything that followed in the Prequel Trilogy felt safe and too by the numbers for me, although it's not to say there is nothing in there worthwhile.
But Star Wars definitely had lost its confidence.
I'm interested what the 'Prequel' generation think of this?
It seems there are its hard core fans.
I think it's too early for The Sequel generation to comment, but boy have they had alot of content to bring to the sandpit Smile

I'd like for that to change to be honest.
Some fan edits try and recreate the original vision of the filmmakers (most of mine begin this way), who had been compromised in production for one reason or another.
I also think if a fan choses to spend the time and effort to work on a project like this, they have gone beyond 'Joe Average".

I didn't realize when I was looking here that this wasn't for fan edits.  Probably why I didn't see anything substantial about the Phantom Menace and thus why I posted - I just thought I missed it and was hoping someone would direct me to posts about them.  I guess not.  I originally came here after seeing a YouTube about a different edit of The Bourne Identity without any Treadstone stuff in the film until the end, and I was curious.  I guess I thought of that as a fan edit, and then thought that this was a site for fan edits, but as the site is names "FanRestore" I guess it is different.  Is the edited version of Bourne Identity a "restoration" of some kind?

Well, the Treadstone edit for Bourne is indeed a fan edit. It's not like there are absolutely none here whatsoever as there are a few that have been made for sure, but it's not the main purpose of this place.

Got it.  At least I know now why it doesn't have the info I was looking for originally!
