LaserDiscs needed for replacing BD audio
(2018-09-23, 06:17 PM)springfeel Wrote: am using kodi  , pretty sure DRC is turned off. tried downmixing to aac and it didn't sound any different. read from a few sources that the LFE is missing on moonraker.

the earlier DVD edition of Moonraker has a 5.1 mix that was most likely taken from the 70 mm Six track Magnetic Master, maybe that one sounds different.

or what would be sweet, is if someone could sync the PCM Stereo track from the Laserdisc to the Blu Ray!!

try the DD 2.0 mix in Kodi, and see how it sounds in comparison to the DTS HD track

Jason and the Argonauts has been synced. It was a bear, so I'll be taking a short break before starting on the next. I've also captured Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Twins, and Tremors so lots more coming.

Are you referring to the Czech release? I wasn't able to find that one for sale anywhere reasonable (the one site that would ship to US wanted $40 for shipping) and I wasn't sure it wasn't just a downmix, so I had to go with the German that only has 5.1. In theory I think the DTS HD track would be better..

I have the Arnold Schwarzenegger Comedy Favorites Collection DVD set that has a digitally remastered print of Twins with the original 2.0 mix (but it is in lossy DD)

The Twins BD is nothing special unfortunately, its most definitely a DVD era master.

Yeah the Master used for the BD was a remaster done in 2006-2007. But hey, at least it is not a DNR waxfest!!!

OUATIA is uncut on the US LD and look almost identical to the DVD. Amazing LD transfer.

Moonraker was seemingly remixed on the THX reissue for 2.0 and 5.1 which has carried over ever since and sounds a bit different on the 1990 letterbox disc. I prefer the older disc as it sounds slightly less processed but the mix overall is rather bass less and John Barry himself was very unhappy with how the Dolby mix was done as he felt his score was made to sound ineffective. It only sounds good on a large system running at good volume and even then it gets blasted away by the Dolby stereo of FYEO.

yeah, the 2.0 Stereo (and even the 5.1 remix on the UE BD/DVD!) Mix of For Your Eyes Only is Phenomenal!! the Main title sequence ,and the Chase Scene with the Bill Conti  Score "Runaway" are still demo material in my opinion!!

Really? The only ones I could see on LDDB all had a shorter running time than 228/229 - can you point me in the right direction please? Do you have a copy that could be captured?
