What is the best way to convert PAL 576i to 23.976
#1
Title says it all. I'm looking to convert some old PAL DVDs to 23.976fps and looking for the best way to do it. I used dvd2avi to convert to 25p and then vdub to slow down to 23.976 but to resulting video still looks too "fast" like it is still running at 25fps. So I was wondering if any of you fine folks had a better method.

Virtualdub should be fine...
Are you using this way explained here?

Maybe you are not changing the speed, but reencode the video with the new framerate, but original speed.

Wow, that link is extremely helpful. Maybe with that tool I can check, if I get the US Devils Advocate Video (original statue art) to fit the PAL Audio.

Yep did that exact thing. DVD2AVI changes 576i to 576p and then vdub lowers the speed to 23.976.

Maybe I am and my de-interlacing is wrong

PDB, are your PAL DVDs movies? If so, it's highly unlikely that they are interlaced in the first place.

As living in Germany, I tell you: It is not.
There are plenty of German DVDs that are interlaced.

Yeah, I agree with MrBrown; considering the high volume of PAL DVDs I have worked with that are from Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and others; that most PAL DVDs ARE interlaced.

I am wondering where Chew got the notion that they are progressiveHuh
