What is the benefit of CEE Blurays?
#11
Very cool. I have 1 Japan HD-DVD for Reign of Fire and it looks awesome!!! I love that the Japanese take such care with things ... even their music releases of American music are usually far nicer in comparison.

Guess I'll have to check out that "Russian" site.

Regarding Japan: Some of their Audio CDs are superior quality, compared to the regarding non japanese Releases. I have the japanese CD of Rammsteins 'Liebe ist für alle da'. It is a SHM-CD.
I read that even with the same data on a SHM-CD there is a quality difference between SHM-CD and normal CD on a normal CD Player, because a normal Audio Player does no error correction while playing, and on direkt reading the SHM-CD technique is a bit better. While on PC ripping the chechsums are euqual, because the PC does an error correction.

Regarding movies: There are much examples that japan got better mastering, lesser dnr'ing or just awsome things.
ie: the BD of Metallicas "Through the Never" got a DTS-HD MA 7.1 track at 96kHz, 24-bit ...

Isn't CEE essentially the same as Region 2?

On BDs, we should not Use the (DVD Region) Numbers.

BD Region B differs from DVD Region 2.

That's why I was quite irritated at the beginning.

Also, BD Region B (or 2) contains not very european Africa, and not really European Australia..

Yeah, that's what I mean. Isn't CEE essentially the same as Region B? Evidently yes.

Yes, they are technically Region B, but just like with Region 2 DVD, there are difference between releases from different countries within that "region."

In the case of a lot of BDs from Eastern Europe (the "CEE" labeled ones) those are from different masters than the "EU" (European Union) BDs from places like the UK, France, Italy, or Germany. The CEE Bds are from countries like Poland, Czech Republic, Hungry, or Turkey.

Most places that tag their releases will not label just "Region B" (or other region, as this applies to BDs worldwide) as the origin of the material, as that's not specific enough, which is why I have seen the following tags used:

- GBR or UK - obviously a British BD release

- US - duh

- CAN - duh, Canada

- GER or DE - for German releases

- FR - for French releases

- CEE - Central or Eastern Europe - countries like Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungry, Romania, Turkey

- JPN - for Japaneses Releases

- ITA - for Italian releases

- RUS - for Russian releases

- AUS - for Australian releases

- CHINESE - well, that one is obvious, LOL Tongue

These are tags that I have seen myself, where some film was determined to have the "best" release on BDs originating from somewhere on the above mentioned list.

Hope this helpsWink

There is a fair amount of people that seem to agree that CEE Blurays have nicer masters than at least their US counterparts. I was just kinda wondering why different masters would be used for the same release all over.

This is a good learning conversation.

Well that's interesting. I'd have thought they'd all use the same master.

There's many possible reasons for the use of different masters:

- localized versions

- old masters

- different transfers of old masters

- money - it's cheaper to use what you already have on hand, versus getting a new scan

- convenience - again, easier to use what's already on hand.

Add to this the fact that a lot of stuff gets released by different companies throughout the world and it would make sense that we end up with different transfers. I love the fact that this occurs, as it makes acquiring decent copies of certain films possibleOk

I got few Polish Blurays that I uploaded before to Myspleen, they were open matte in some cases too, different color timing etc.
