I've had a few things going on in my life since the start of this year so I've not been visiting here much since "the event." I tried to log in a few days ago and was worried that this wonderful site had disappeared. So relieved to find it back again today. And I can use the ShoutBox again! Huzzah! Hoping I'll be able to get back on top of some of my projects soon.
Feallan is right, with discord or IRC most of the conversation would just move to a chat and kill the forum with its useful information. I'd settle for a system that allows admin or moderators to send email alerts in case something big happens and many members wouldn't know what's going on. I hear mailchimp and similar services can be useful and are free within limits that are compatible with the number of members here and the frequency of such events.
I'm not sure about Discord, I would rather not shift any discussion from the forum, since we have the shoutbox. Maybe some announcement only channel, but then it would require people to have an account there and bookmark it. I think I'll look into some mass mailing solution (can't use the forum feature, if forum is down)
Depending on the purpose discord is superior to irc... IRC is just a live text chat, while discord can be used for announcements, why not everyone has to catch right at the moment...
Quite a few on here have accounts on OT or the SW forums, but agree it may be best to have a backup way of contacting members. Glad that fanrestore is back!
It's not going to for the foreseeable future, but even in that case something would definitely be set up, at the very least a way to exchange e-mails between members. But yeah, doing it yourself wouldn't hurt too
Also, they restored an earlier backup of the DB, I had to do it again with the correct one, so a couple shouts and a 1-post thread about a shoutbox issue (it should be fixed now, Hitcher) are missing. Sorry guys, and thanks to Evit for noticing something was wrong
Okay, everything should be up and running. My hosting provider had some sort of a malfunction on Friday evening, and strangely, even though the helpdesk should work 24/7, they were only able to fix it on Monday morning... Please let me know if anything is missing/not working on the forum
GF1 has some analog noise and low volume, while GF2 is pretty clean and clear with low volume, a pretty easy fix, so no LD syncing is necessary IMO, both films' LD come from the same dupey master, and much detail isn't there at all, probably due to NR (They are pretty clean sounding)
They're not in sync, the new Paramount logo is gone, and so are the restoration credits. I do however find that the Bluray mono sounds better than the LD, less dupey, even after doing some cleanup work, which Paramount didn't seem to do
Yeah I only found out about ot when it was already over. Would be nice if the few people's vote that commented afterwards (me included) would had been considered as well. As in that case #2 would had won instead of #7
Only two weeks for the 'Superman - In Concert' world premiere in Switzerland. If that 'Citi Light' orchestra can bang it out this month without cancelling again, other orchestras around the world can start booking that concert.
You say that but every time I see a facebook post from LG for a new TV the comments are full of people complaining about burn in. And this is people saying that they do everything they are told, they have the settings to combat it turned on, they don't leave the TV on pause and it still happened and when it did LG did not want to know - or they offered to fix it and when the TV was returned it was worse than it was before they fixed it. Even if you buy from Richer Sounds or John Lewis with the 6 year guarantee it doesn't cover burn in at all. So if I'm going to drop £3k+ on a new TV I need some kind of cast iron guarantee it will either never happen or it will get replaced if it does. Current TV is edge lit and one of the LEDs went so I had a dark shadow during light scenes, RS replaced it straight away with no quibble, but if it had been an OLED with burn it they wouldn't have done anything. Just can't afford to gamble when spending that much. Even if it's very unlikely, if it did happen after say 6 months, no one will fix it and no one will buy it so I'm completely screwed.
I‘m still a fan of the UST projectors (namely Fengmi CinemaPro 2 and Xiaomi Laser Cinema 2 -with Dolby Visio-). Even in daylight circumstances (not direct sunlight on the screen) the picture is bright enough to watch comfortably.
Well if you believe the hype these QD OLEDS are supposed to have the blacks of an OLED with the brightness of LCD, like Hitcher says though I don't expect them to be cheap. From what I understand this is a branch of Samsung that sells to other manufacturers so they won't just turn up in Samsung sets. My biggest issue is burn in though, I know it's better than it was but I've got a wife and a kid who insist on leaving the TV paused all the time! These QD OLEDs are supposed to be a lot better at avoiding burn in but it can still happen.
Video discussing the new OLED tech being put out by Samsung - note that Samsung sponsored the video but the reviewer acknowledges this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Piteu5gyKq0
