I find it interesting how on the Friday The 13th remaster, it seems there was a minor revisionist attempt to match up the skintones between Kevin Bacon's head and dummy body: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&...62&i=7&l=0
managed to see Bill and Ted at my local Vue last night. there was 6 people including me in there. also booked a ticket for Alien (4K DCP) over Halloween
Extremely upsetting. My local indie is currently open and I have no idea how the hell they are going to survive. Showing Saint Maud, which is an excellent film that nobody is going to see
Does anybody have both the 4K/UHD and fullscreen US/German Blu-ray releases of THE EVIL DEAD (the original, not the remake)? Curious whether they're in sync or not; looks like there's about 19 seconds extra at the start of the UHD as far as I can tell but apart from that they may be frame-matched, or very very close to being frame-matched
The good side on the "just a beefed up" version is that the downward compatibility is given. not as with the PS3, when they changed the Processor Architecture to a extreme, and for PS4 another Architecture Change that made the Console not backwards compatible. I think if there is a game thats interests me, I might go for it as PS5 version, if a cool limited edition is released that I want, but will still get the console later.
As for the new consoles: Either is just a beefed up version of the current gen. At least that's how I see them at this point. There is no game that I want from the launch titles for 80 bucks. I just test them out and then sell them off or return them and get the money back.
I bought my PS3 shortley before that model was discontinued. It was the first fat with 60GB (European Model, sadly) that stil can play some PS2 titles. Later, when I was more days abroard, I got a slim, because the fat was too heavy and bulky.
@MrBrown My launch model PS3 was my SACD player amongst other things but that doesn't really make much difference after it suffers total hardware failure because they used thermal compound so bad that it turned to dust and fried all the ICs...
@MrBrown Yep, if Sony has taught us anything, it's that they cannae be trusted to manufacture a solid, reliable product first time around... they'll fix it for the next revision.
The HP films were archived by their creator spoRv since he felt they were no longer needed. Once something is the archived section it is understood to no longer be available.

Full Metal Jacket 4k - just 5.1 on the 4k disc and the blu ray disc is the same as the 2007 disc except they removed the lossy mono audio - so no mono at all
Anyone noticed that the Home Alone UHD 5.1 mix sounds different compared to the 5.1 on the previous Blu and DVDs? The 5.1 on those releases have a different sounding center channel and stereo rears, plus a booming LFE. The UHD's 5.1 lacks LFE and the rears are mono surround, which indicates it might be a discrete version of the original Dolby Stereo LRCS mix
If the new cable doesn't work I'd check the RF out socket in case there's a dry solder joint, maybe worth measuring the output voltage to see if it's strong enough. I keep saying this but sign up at lddb, the forum is a goldmine of technical info
@zoidberg It is a Sony MOD-RF1. If this cable doesn't work, I don't know if I have it in me (or my wallet) to try to get my player/RF mod fixed or replaced. I might be "donating" a large amount of AC-3 discs to someone to capture.
@alinskey: any composite cable should be able to carry the digital signal but a bad cable could be a cause of your problems. It could also be something off with the alignment in your player or the RFmod. The cable sounds like a good place to try first.
Might be a silly question but is there a particular cable that works better for AC-3 RF demodulator? I've been using a composite cable and getting a lot of issues with the demodulator not "locking" to the single. I've got a digital coax cable coming in the mail. Should I expect better results or is a demod not "locking" something more severe?
Anyone know if there has ever been a decent release of The Ghost And The Darkness? I gather there is a German Blu Ray but understand the transfer is really bad
Sorry I've not been around much lately. I've had so much going on in my work and private life (nothing bad) that I've not had much free time lately. Sorry to everyone who has mentioned and messaged me, I'm not ignoring you, I'll try and respond to you all soon
Watched it earlier, been excited about this. Trailer manages to kind of scupper my enthusiasm somewhat by being generic big hollywood blockbuster trailerhouse fare but I have enjoyed everything Denis Villeneuve has done that I've seen (which is most of his films) so I'm still hoping for something good here.

When I first read the headline, I felt a similar punch to the gut I felt back in 2008 about Heath Ledger. Just the sudden randomness of a young artist taken at a very specific height.
The article reads: "In 2018, it was discovered that Who Goes There? was actually a shortened version of a longer story that John Campbell Jr. had written, and the Frozen Hell manuscript laid untouched for decades." I'm down!
the best comment regarding the thing 2011 prequel/remake, as in missed opportunity to make something original that expands the story, I've heard on recent Junkfood Cinema podcast: what if the prequel was "a la Sorcerer" story of how each of the men on Outpost 31 came to the job there. Now, that's a pitch!.
Gotta "love" the American sensibilities involving COVID. Keeping my fingers crossed it won't ruin Cinematic Void's 2021 January Giallo 35mm screenings.
That really stinks, @alexp120 ! If it weren't for COVID, I would've seen a Joe Hisaishi/Ghibli concert by now. As it is, it's been postponed to the same time next year. But who knows what'll happen by then?
Interesting. I wonder if the colors are accurate supposing it is referring to a 35mm theatrical print (though the fact that the footage appears to come from a VHS release isn't promising). Which reminds me, does anyone think Sorcerer would make an interesting regrade project if it color matched to this 35mm trailer scan: https://youtu.be/7JSRqjCgL9Q
MacOS users. Think twice about installing/upgrading ffmpeg with homebrew. My build got to 5 hours before I gave up After, I downloaded a static build and had it installed within 2mins lol
