LaserDiscs needed for replacing BD audio
#11
What's the audio like on the French Connection LD? Neither option on the BD is great - the 5.1's levels seem off and the DD mono has a lot of hiss/noise going on.

I'm a huge fan on the film so would be happy to buy the laserdisc and send it to someone to capture & share with everyone if it's going to be an upgrade over what I have just now.

I've wondered about this for some time. Both I and II always got stuck with stereo-ized mixes like BULLITT which is another film I need to find the mono for. Apparently there's a Japanese LD out there with mono according to a person from the facebook LD group.

For TFC, the remastered BD does have the mono in lossy and I just watched it recently. It's definitely the original complete with distortion etc. The DVDs and LDs were remixed, but I'm not sure about the widescreen I and II double feature LD set. I can find no indicaiton in photos or lddb specs of a stereo mix. Can anyone with this tell us about the audio? Otherwise all we have the the BD or perhaps some obscure foreign release, or at worst VHS/Betamax hi-fi mono? The mono is dirty like the film so it's really meant to be that way I think.

But here's an oddity I stumbled across. IMDB lists TFC as having a 4track mix in the old Cinemascope format L-C-R-S as it's a Fox film and process. I don't know if this is just the site being wrong as usual, but there seems to be some indication that this might have been the case for a premiere or something.

I'm informed that the '94 Deluxe CAV Laserdisc Edition has the original full mono soundtrack on the left analog channel and music/effects only on the right channel. Presumably the standard edition has it as well, but we'll have to check that.

Well I've got my hands on a copy of my own now, so I'll rip the soundtrack. All's I need now is the means to transfer the material.

Anyone considering doing an LD sync for Willy Wonka?? The BD is missing a brief piece of dialogue at one point which I believe should be on the LD. The only thing that might complicate this is the Warner Bros. Logo at the beginning.

Awesome news FrankT, i'll note that on the list that you have it. As far as capturing it, you'll need an audio card https://fanrestore.com/thread-82.html or find someone with the ability, that lives in your country to ship it.
