We just recently finished watching the 23 films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We were doing one film per evening. It was really interesting seeing all these movies in a row, a lot of small callbacks and character development. We actually miss having the regularity which kept us entertained for a little over three weeks.

L'immortale (2019)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9048786/
“The Immortal,” a film prequel to the hit TV series “Gomorrah,”
Helmed by actor-director Marco D’Amore, who plays ruthless central character Ciro Di Marzio on the gritty mob show, “The Immortal” is not just a standalone prequel film, its producers said in Rome on Monday. Instead, the film’s narrative, which crisscrosses in time between Ciro’s origins and his current situation, has been conceived as an essential piece of the puzzle for fans of the show, which is distributed by Germany’s Beta in 190 countries.
The film’s storyline connects to the series’ upcoming fifth season, which is expected to air in 2021.
Released on DVD & BD in Italy with English Subs.
Enjoy!

The Standoff At Sparrow Creek
After a mass shooting at a police funeral, reclusive ex-cop Gannon finds himself unwittingly forced out of retirement when he realizes that the killer belongs to the same militia he joined after quitting the force. Understanding that the shooting could set off a chain reaction of copycat violence across the country, Gannon quarantines his fellow militiamen in the remote lumber mill they call their headquarters. There, he sets about a series of grueling interrogations, intent on ferreting out the killer and turning him over to the authorities to prevent further bloodshed.
A great thriller that, for me at least, had the same type of 'someone isn't who they say they are' tension to it as 'The Thing'; and was made for less than $1m in 18 days.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
OK, I must admit I like that contest - even if I NEVER watched Sanremo, just to be clear!
And also like Will Ferrell - dunno why, exactly, as I like Adam Sandler too...
This is the movie you HAVE to watch this year if you like the contest, as sadly the ESC was cancelled due to the virus; it's not the same, sure, but it gives you the "spirit" somehow; and, if you do not like the contest (or even do not know what is it) but you like love stories and comedies, give it a try!

Return of the Living Dead, The (1985)
Thanks to a review in #Evit 's blog, I decided to watch it - unbelievable that I did not before, as I watched A LOT of zombie movies. Frankly, I expected much worse, but still I can't say it's a masterpiece - and I guess nobody thinks. But it has its moment, if you take it as it is, an horror comedy, that sadly isn't too horror nor too comedy.

Onward (2020)
Yes, I like animation films. And I was curious to take a look at this. And I'm glad I did! Very great story, animation, music, characters, everything was good, nothing wrong IMHO. If I want to find something less than great, was the choice of some Italian voice character, but overall the dubbing works very well.
Reccomended to any animation lover - actual kid or grown up kid.

Rick & Morty (Series) - Season 4, episodes 6-10
I like this series, strange and funny. I liked the first five episodes of the fourth season, in particular Rattlestar Ricklactica - it is a must see for any Terminator fan. But I found these last episodes inferior (in particular the sixth one is quite confusing); can't say they are terrible, just not up the the level of previous ones. Hope next season will be better!

Anime nere aka Black Souls (2014 )
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3894190/
Calabrian mafia ' Ndrangheta
DIRECTOR'S NOTES:
I shot the movie in the town that writers and journalists have stigmatized as among the most mafia ridden places in Italy, one of the nerve centers of the Calabrian ’Ndrangheta: Africo. When I told people I wanted to shoot there, everyone tried to dissuade me: too difficult the subject, too unapproachable, too dangerous. It was an impossible film. I asked Gioacchino Criaco, the author of Anime nere to help me. I arrived in Calabria full of prejudices and fears.
The reality of what I found there was very complex and varied. I saw suspicion turn into curiosity and people open up their homes for us.
I mixed my actors up with the inhabitants of the town, who performed and worked with the cast. Without them this film would have been poorer.
Africo has a very rough history steeped in criminality but it is one that can help us to understand many things about our country. From Africo you can see Italy better.

Wild Hogs (2007)
Was 100% sure to have watched it, but I was wrong (or I completely deleted it from my memory...)
Well, it's a decent comedy - sure, do not expect A LOT of laughters, but there are some - and a must see for any motorbike lover - even the ones that do not love choppers.
Hint: a cameo at the end worth the watch for the less convinced ones.

Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
I liked the game very much, and I always watch movies related to videogames, so I can't avoid it!
Quite nice, a lot of action, good CGI, acting good - even if Jim Carrey is a good actor, he's even more over the top in this film, though. Expect a sequel soon.

Sputnik (2020)
A Russian sci-fi set in the middle 80s; slow, dark, pale colors, perfectly helped to transport the viewer to that time and place - at least, it did it to me, even if I never was there. Far from a complete original story, still it has its moments, and it's unmissable for anyone who loves sci-fi and monsters.

The last couple of weeks, since theaters have reopened in France :
- The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, on Blu-ray (!) on the giant screen (about 24 meters wide) of Paris' Le Grand Rex.
- Dunkirk, on DCP in Dolby Cinema, in Paris' Pathé Beaugrenelle.
- Se7en, on Blu-ray (!) at Le Grand Rex on their giant screen.
- Memento, on DCP, at Le Grand Rex on their giant screen.
- The Prestige, on DCP, at Le Grand Rex on their giant screen.
- Titanic, on DCP, at Le Grand Rex on their giant screen.
- Batman Begins, on DCP in Dolby Cinema, in Paris' Pathé Beaugrenelle just today.
It looked and sounded awesome. I can't believe how they fucked up the UHD and yet made a non DNR-plagued Dolby DCP with gorgeous desaturated Se7en-like color palette. It felt just like watching a print. I noticed a couple of very dark scenes with crushed blacks, though. Colors are way more saturated on the UHD, at least after conversion to BT.709, and on the iTunes remaster, too. I can't speak about the actual UHD HDR look. I even spotted a few cracks in the audio, accentuating the feeling of watching a film on film.
Tomorrow:
- The Dark Knight, on DCP in Dolby Cinema, in Paris' Pathé Beaugrenelle.
- The Dark Knight Rises, on DCP in Dolby Cinema, in Paris' Pathé Beaugrenelle.
