Ok! I finally took a dozen screenshots for comparison. The new Netflix version looks SO MUCH better than the Blu-ray. The Blu-ray (as we all know by now) suffers from severe digital noise reduction (DNR) and artificial sharpening. The Netflix version, however, seems to have no DNR or artificial sharpening.

Again, does anyone know of a decent way to capture a movie from Netflix at full quality? This would be the perfect chance to preserve this version of The Fellowship of the Ring, as it's not available elsewhere, and it will eventually be removed from Netflix.
