Quote:Shows like Buffy and I think seasons 1 and 2 of angel would beg to differ when it comes to 16:9 you can see crew members you weren’t meant to see etc.
That's a reality for all shows. Like with the Wire, where they had to touch up, either erasing with CGI, or reframe many shots, for it to work, you have to re-adapt the negs to current standarts. The producer of the Wire invested hundred of hours doing this, but he knew that was the condition for his show making money for the next three or five decades. And it worked. The show is all over the place now, which would never have happened if they kept it 4/3.
It's like for Friends, no one except hardcore fans who want the full extended episodes that appeared only on DVD will watch them on 4/3 DVD now, general audiences watch Friends in 16/9 Blu-ray or streaming.
STTNG of course still gets to stream on Netflix and other, but that is due to the power of the franchise name. If they invested in widescreening it, as originaly intended, it would boost the viewership to no end. Even those "purists" on the Blu forum would buy the sets again just to see the different experience and improved CGI.
