Altering the functionality of a Bluray menu button.
#1
I wonder if anyone knows how I can change the functionality of buttons within a bluray menu?

I have created a bluray menu in Encore, only to come up against the hurdle of being allowed 8 audio tracks maximum. I know I can add additional tracks after the bluray is compiled, which I can navigate to with the audio selection button on the remote, but they will have no means of selection from the menu.

I want to be able to add buttons for the extra audio tracks to the menu, and link them to one of the 8 that I am allowed in Encore as a placeholder. Then add the additional audio tracks after the disc is compiled. After this, I want to redirect the buttons to the newly added audio tracks.

I'm not sure if this is possible. I know how to alter the appearance of buttons with bdedit, but not what they do.

If you can help, please chime in, I would really appreciate it.

Hi

I've got the full Adobe CC Suite but won't claim to be as familiar with it as you will no doubt be. However it does kind of sound like it could be a software program limitation that is causing you the issue. Buttons are merely the thing you press to tell the player to do something or navigate to , the clever stuff is the telling how to do or where to go. I'm quite sure Adobe have all that covered behind the scenes within the program but if there limiting you too 8 and you need more it's not going to happen within Encore unless you have a means of exporting your current menu to Photoshop and adding the buttons you need.

I don't know what your menu structure will look like from Encore but I'd be interested to see it if you can manage to export it too Photoshop. In my experience using different methods you should have BOG Button Object Groups if my memory serves me correctly, they will have the individual buttons with their three states Normal,Selected,Activated. You could then go on to add your new buttons but unless you can route them so to speak. By that I mean tell them their commands of what to do and where to go it's not going to work.

Do apologise ifs that's not what you were looking for but just sounded like it may be an issue which Encore is giving as opposed to not being possible

Thanks for you reply.

The problem is with Enncore. 8 audio tracks is not a bluray lstandard imitation, it's just that Encore won't let me add more. As I metioned, I can put more than the required amount of buttons on the menu, and I can add more audio tracks after I'm finished with Encore. I just need a way of linking the existing buttons to the new audio.

Hi dude

Cool so at least we know it's Encore

I see you mentioned BDEdit, I'm not overly familiar with it but could you do the link of the buttons using that ?

Hi

If you would be willing to share all of the files needed to make the Bluray along with the menu I can have a go but entirely up to you and I appreciate it is your baby

Just for the record I am no longer affiliated to any site so would not be looking to release it anywhere just to help you out if I can

Let me know thank you

I don't have all of the assets ready yet. Isolated score track needs making and I also need to sync a laserdisc track. I'm just trying to get my head around how to do it, so I can complete the disc when it's all in place. It will also help in the future knowing how to get around Encore's limitations. I appreciate the offer, but the there is about 30gb of files right now. It would be a pain to upload.

I've been looking on the Doom9 forum and from what I've read I'm sure this is possible with Bdedit, just need to figure out the how.

Hi mate

No worries I fully appreciate your position and understand your desire to figure this out yourself :-)

I'm not the most familiar with BDEdit but all I would say regarding this is try to get some insight into how Encore has compiled this menu by exporting it to photoshop, that should show you the structure it has chosen to use then make your new buttons and good luck with BDEdit hopefully it is straight forward enough. Also remember Bluray menu has limit in size to 16MB :-)

All the very best
