OK it appears you are correct, IMDB is wrong. According to this review of the Blu-ray:

Quote:The soundtrack, including work of the German electronic music group Tangerine Dream, was likewise restored from the original 35mm 4-track stereo masters.

Imdb is user made, just like Wikipedia, it's full of wrong info, especially on films formats and sound mixes.

This had a 70mm release in 1977 so it was likely a 4 track master mixed to either 6 track for 70mm or Dolby 70mm as it released just before SW-and then the 35mm general release was probably mono only.

I've seen the 1953 original, Wages of Fear, but never this remake. Would be cool to see it first with your restoration when it's done! And if anyone who loves Sorcerer has never seen Wages of Fear, I highly recommend it!

Ah, interesting. I already have the French copy, which is also free of burnt-in subs, but I'd be interested to know if there are any other transfer differences in the UK edition. Are there any caps anywhere?

By the way, I have now picked up the LD, but haven't got around to doing anything with it. Maybe over Christmas (though I have another chunky project that will demand my attention before I get onto that!)

Were you ever able to rip the LD? I've been eyeballing it lately haha.. I don't mind syncing Smile

Not to derail this too much, but is the shorter "Wages of Fear" cut available anywhere in HD? I wonder how hard it would be to reconstruct that version, let alone finding a decent 35mm print, being it has several unique shots not seen in the US version.

No, but thanks for reminding me. My capture set-up is little fragmented at the moment, but I'll see if I can get things back together to do this (and a couple of other rips I've been waiting to get done!)

I picked up Sorcerer on LD recently. I'm hoping to have bit-perfect capability in the next week or so. Waiting on some gear.

I've always wondered, has this 4-Track mix ever been released on home video? From what I can garner, the blu-ray 5.1 remix stems from it, but I don't think the 4-Track was ever released unaltered?

Unfortunately, I don't own a proper blu-ray copy of the movie so I can't confirm this (which is a shame since I've been wanting to regrade that HD master for a while now).

I wonder if a Dolby Decode of the LD PCM might get something akin to it, but I'm sure, no doubt, there'll be some differences.

On that note also, has the PCM ever been synced to the BD out of curiosity?
