Yeah same here!
Anyway, I've matched the rest of the caps-a-holic grabs against the same frame in the corrected Blu-ray in case it helps. Some of the framing is drastically different. Check out the first and last.

Found few pics of a test I made two years ago: https://diff.pics/K22DVOMIfvKq/1
Sources are simple JPGs found online of the DE and US DVDs; I combined them together to get more image; as you can see, top and bottom left corners were missing, so I used the inpaint filter to "invent" those corners.
Problems: the pictures have different crops on different scenes, have different colors and, last but not least, as noted by markymark, one is rotated in comparison to another; add to all these the fact the missing corners should be "invented" for the whole movie, and, why the inpaint filter is quite good with static images, is pretty bad for video restoring... long story short, I would not do this kind of restoration - unless the studio would pay me top $$$ to do it, and it will not happen!
Still, the project is interesting even with "just" the points found in the first post.

That's cool! Had no idea such a filter existed.
As you've said, "just" what has already been noted would be transformative.

Well, the plot thickens! I've managed to get hold of what I assume is a non-SE Italian DVD release of the film (Punto di non ritorno). The aspect ratio is correct, but the colour grade is different again. It doesn't match the NTSC release. It also appears to be interlaced and there's a very slight shift to the framing. I managed to dig out my old non-SE UK DVD at the weekend. Will rip that tonight and compare the two; crazy busy today.
Either the PAL non-SE DVD colour grade is different from the NTSC one and we've discovered an additional master, or the master used on the Italian release is the same as the Laserdisc one (interlaced suggests an earlier transfer at least).

I think so. I'll have to check it against my UK disc to know for sure.

There is a slight color difference between US and DE non-SE versions, according to this page:

Now, *probably* the Italian DVD is like the German one; you should take some screenshots of the same frames found in the comparison, and check it.

Before you do so, you gave to check, if your video filter settings of your code are set appropriately. Every SD caps at caps-a-holic.com were done deactivating any video enhancements for DVD video with an older power DVD version, that had no image tuning inside.

Agree. But, whatever player/method you use to take screenshots, just use the same one with both sources - disregarding the screenshots found on the net; in this way, you would be able to see if there is actual differences between your sources.
